All righty folks, this is a new run. Tom and I found these roads in the foothills of Clark Mountain recently, and are kicking ourselves for never exploring them before. There are mines, arrastra mills, foundations, fallen-down mining shacks, and the most extensive wall of petroglyphs I've seen anywhere outside of places like Valley of Fire. The spring itself has a little flowing water, and it's truly an oasis - a hill of thick trees and grass in the middle of dry terrain. I've been told there are even apple and peach trees at it. We also have a good chance of seeing burros at some point during the day. And, of course, the scenery is fantastic.

If there's time, we'll head up to the Copper World Mine, which has a cabin and various holes and adits to explore, plus literally tons of green, copper-containing rock. (For folks who went to the Copper World with Tom and I awhile back - this is the other side of the mountain. It's not where you folks were.)

The Pachalka Road is easy, no more than a 1.5. The Copper World Mine Road has a couple of spots that might be a 2.

To get to the arrastras, the petroglyphs, and the shacks will require a bit of walking in typical rough desert terrain - maybe a few hundred feet to each site, depending on where we all park. Plus, the 'glyphs are surrounded by loads of prickly pear, so careful treading is necessary. Some of the 'glyphs can be seen from the road with binocs.

This will be an all-day trip. We'll meet at the gas station at Whiskey Pete's in Primm at 9:00 on May 18, and roll at 9:30. I am assuming that the gas station will be open by then. We'll head down the highway, and get off on the Cima exit.

A couple of updates:

The new gas station at Whiskey Pete's is up and running, so there will be no problem with parking. For those of you who remember what used to be there, in terms of bathrooms and snacks, the new station is a vast improvement (not that this would have been difficult).

And, there is a new addition to this trip. Before heading to Pachalka Spring, we will take a detour to the Shadow Mountain Mine. There's a ton of old mining debris - shacks, dumps, foundations, you name it. Plus, the remains of a fancy stone house (very cool).

The Shadow Mountain area is loaded with roads and mines, so hopefully, once you folks know where it is, you'll explore it and map out some other routes for us to take in the future. Unless I get to them first. :P

Where will the trip end? Back on Cima Rd., or elsewhere?

Yep, the trail ends back on the road to the Cima exit. It's actually called Excelsior Mine Road on that side of the highway.
