there's a TV show from Arizona called "the Desert Speaks" that I caught, and they went to a place called the Arizona Strip. lots of places to wander around, and you can even drive up to the Grand Canyon rim.

the area i've allways known as the arizona strip is along the south border of utah and the grand canyon/colorado river to the south between st. george utah & page arizona. big area that you can get totally lost in for days or weeks on end. there are trails all over the area as it was used for ranching and a lot of the old western movies were shot in that area too. i understand that there's a 4x4 club out of kanab utah and they probably have tons of info about the area. and yes you can drive right up to the north rim of the grand canyon to an area called toroweep if i remember correctly. i talked to a guy that drove in there one evening and set up camp in the dark, got up the next morning and his tent was like 4 feet from the edge with a 1+ mile drop. could have been bad if he'd needed to get up and pee during the night. from north rim there are also lots of hiking trails that get you right down into the canyon to the river. i'm sure some others will have more info then this.

Been there, camped at the rim, A totally awesome place! There are several places to access the trails in, like Meaquite, Bunkerville and St. George. Been out there 8 times, but I have no GPS cord. for the area. Big recommendations, don't go alone, bring extra fuel and watch out for the Green Mohave snakes (very deadly)
