I am unhinged....

my laptop's hinges are broken. I really am not good at fixing physical things on a computer and was wondering if anyone in the club knows their way around.

They can be fixed? :? Gonna have to stop shooting them I guess

Best I could think of is a hinge from Home Depo. Then we could upgrade it with a garage door opener, a cordless drill and a blowtorch. Battlebotts here we come

There may be some repair places in town that could do it, sorry I'm not much help.

Has anyone helped you out yet? If not, let me know. I know someone who can probably fix it. I'll ask him tomorrow and see what he says. :)

Is the plastic hinge broken off or is it still attached? Did the screen break away from the rest of the laptop? If so, PC Exchange (or Laptop Exchange - refurbished laptops place) will fix it.

not yet. the screen is still attached, but it opens all the way up and doesn't stick in place...almost totally broken, and I have the screen propped up on a couch cushion for now.

how much will Laptop Exchange do it for?

but I'm not open to spending over 200 bucks for this (as PC Laptops wants -- 2 hours minimum plus parts), when the computer itself is only worth 100 on a trade-in, or was only purchased for 700.

but i need it done quickly.

Other than a quick fix ($30+/- and trip to Home Depot and some enginuity :?: ) by putting two L-brackets on either side of the screen to hold it in place; you might have to have the whole case replaced. But I would give them (laptop exchange) a call and see what they would charge. Most of their stuff is reasonably priced. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

JJ,
A trick i've used in the past is to drip some crazy glue into the hinges with the screen open. When it sets up you have enough leverage with the screen to break the bond but it will still provide resistance to keep the screen from falling down. When it eventually wears out just add more glue. Hope that helps.
