Radio quality, it is not based on how much it costs. The more expensive ones, just have more "gadgets" on them. Things like an automatic noise limiter (ANL) and or a noise blanker. Both of which cut background noise and make it sound better. Some have an analog or LED meter that shows transmitting and receiving signal strength. Some even have weather channels in them. All of them put out the same amount of power, about 4 watts. If you decide against a magnetic mount antenna, there are others to choose from. The best type is a full length (96") whip on a 6" spring. They don't need to be tuned. But not everyone wants to cut a hole in their vehicle to mount it. The antenna I have is about 4 feet long and is very flexible. If fact, you can bend it and touch both ends together. If anything happens to it, I'll buy another one just like it. As for the coax, I think someone mentioned "mini-8" as the best. They are right. It is grey in color and very flexible. I hope you're not too confused with all of this input from us. We're just trying to help.

Howdy,
Still confused about which cb to buy and git installed? Probably will tool up to BC during the holidays and let radio world do it. If I meet some of you on Tuesday can I stick my head in your cabs and ask questions, or do I have to stay in jeep and just wave at everyone?

I too am having cb issues. My cb is not working I was told to get a 4 ft fire stick, and a mount that would go behind my tail light. When I went to pick up my mount and fire stick, Vic at 4 wheel parts, told me, that now my antenna would be to tall if I mounted behind the tail light... Now I am so confused. I spend all this money, after I did research for awhile and now I am being told what I bought wont' work well....grrrrrr.........

I too will also being buying a new cb radio, I was at Petro Saturday after the toy run, they have several to choice from, and not to expensive.

From what I was told by Karl's CB, At least 1/3 of the antenna should be above the roof line. That way nothing is in the way of the signal. Don't know if that is true or not. but it works for me. I think most people prefer going below the roof, so they can get in and out of the garage without taking thew antenna off.. I have a very flexy antenna that is drags along the door every time I go in and out of the garage. No problems yet in 4 years.

the radio world owner will come down and open the shop after you call, 294-2666. he is semi-reitired.
he'll offer to sell ya the biz if he likes you.
boulder city is a bit of a drive from my home in the NW, but he has always been there when i make it on over.
if you have time, check out all the stuff in the shop.
it is like that scene in star wars with the little desert people's star ship.
really neat stuff that i had no clue what it had to do with radio, yet he knew.
he saves parts for all kinds of old radios just so he can fix a broken one.
the shop is the first strip mall on the right as you drive into town. their is a nursery and the 2 gals cafe used to be at the other end.

Marla...

I deal with Vic at 4WP, but he is wrong about the antenna and mount. If you're getting a mount like the one I have (and most everyone else who owns a Wrangler), you shouldn't have any problems. The antenna I have is a K40, it is tuned by moving the small tip on the end up or down. Firestick antennas do work, but they are a little harder to tune. 8)

my radio is a Uniden 520XL. it's worked well for 3 years.

I would like maybe to get one of those Cobra's that can be hidden better, so I wouldn't feel compelled to always remove my radio so it won't get stolen. the less they see inside your Jeep the better.

Howdy, JJ and the rest,

I'm think Cobra too, something small that is hard to see. I think the antenna would be a whip that could bend so I could get it into the garage with no problems. I have a three-car garage and so I have three cars always in the garage, along with a kayak and good camping gear! I live in the northwest of vegas valley also but I enjoy the drive to BC, that way we can stop at Milo's for a glass of wine and a bite! Vegas is way over priced for me any longer. Back in the day when you went to see a show, you got two drinks when ever you wanted them. Now you gotta stand in lines and the booze is watered down and the canned music is way too loud! Hey, I also travel with a bunch of good camera gear and have never had anything stolen from my rides, they chose to break into my house and got shot!

That's good to know John, thanks! Cool I don't have to send antenna back, took two weeks to get here, can imagine how long it would before I was refunded my money.

Great, now I Just need to buy a cb and I am good to go!

John, I sent you a pm...grin.
