I have noticed a lot of people using Tire Deflators on the trail and have been looking to buy a set. Any recommendations? I have been looking at the smittybilt 2723 @ $40.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

Deflators are a fantastic item. I have these:

I don't know anything about the Smittybilt ones, but they look basically the same.

One thing I suggest that you do, once you get them set to the pressure that you want. Put loctite on them, or run a bead of caulk around the threads, or do some such thing, to keep the locking ring from loosening up and letting the set point change.

I didn't notice that one of mine had loosened up, until I aired down at the start of a trip, walked away and chatted with others while the airdowns were doing their thing, then walked back to m jeep - only to discover that one of my tires had been aired down to.... oh.... zero pounds.

It's rather embarrassing to air up at the START of a trip.... especially when you're the trip leader.

From internet reviews, I went with Staun II deflators. I've used mine several times and just had to initially set them up. Settings haven't changed, as mine are set at 17 psi. Takes about 3-4 minutes at most to deflate all 4 tires.

been there, done that, a couple weeks ago but at least I wasn't the trail leader, HA!

I use Trailhead Deflators, they're fine if you set them up to correct psi.

I too use Trailhead tire deflators. The adjustment is internal to the body of the deflator so one would hope it stays at the set point. So far I've been impressed with them.
