100th Birthday Party of the Goffs Schoolhouse, and the Second Annual Monster Book Sale Of Western Americana

On Sunday, Oct 12, come about 9 a.m., and help celebrate the 100th Birthday Party of the Goffs Schoolhouse. Enjoy 25 acres of outdoor museum displays of life on the Mojave Desert, as experienced by the homesteaders, ranchers, and miners, with acres of mining equipment displays, including demonstrations on the operation of two quartz mills: the 2-stamp mill from the Stotts Mine and the 10-Stamp Mill from the American Boy Mine. There are 50 acres of free parking and no admission charge. Such a deal! (Note: no commercial services are available in Goffs. The nearest gas station, store, and café are in Fenner, ten miles to the west of Goffs.)


The Book Sale is October 10, 11, & 12, 2014 in the reading room of the Dennis G. Casebier Library in Goffs.

The Mojave Desert Heritage & Cultural Association is selling long-out-of-print books of Western Americana, written by such notable authors as Paul Bailey, Eddie Edwards, Nell Murbarger, Harold & Lucile Weight, David Myrick, Dennis Casebier, and Louis L’Amour, with publishers such as Westernlore Press, Calico Print, Tales of the Mojave Road.

They also have a limited number of Nevada Historical Society Quarterlies, and Journals of Arizona History, all for $2.00 each, plus hundreds of used USGS topo maps, including many of the long Out of Print, 15-minute series, all at $3.00 each. (Most of the maps are of the desert regions of California, Nevada, Arizona, and Utah.) They are also selling a limited number of Desert Magazines.

The schedule of book sale hours is as follows:
Friday 10 am to 4:30 pm (MDHCA members only. Not a member? No problem, MDHCA memberships are available for $25.00. (Includes the next 10 issues of the Mojave Road Report)
Saturday 10 am to 4:30 pm
Sunday 11 am to 4 pm

Directions to Find Goffs:
Goffs CA is 35 miles west of Needles. Take I-40 west 10 miles; go right on to U.S. 95 for 6½ miles. Turn left onto Goffs Road for the last 14 miles. The entrance to the MDHCA museum complex is 500 feet north of Goffs Road on Lanfair-Ivanpah Road. Laughlin, take Nevada Route 63 to U.S. Highway 95, then go left 18 miles , Immediately after crossing the BNSF tracks, turn right onto Goffs Road for the final 14 miles to Goffs.
