Post subject:  steel tubing?

I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction for finding some steel tubing. Circular tubing preferrably for building sliders or a bumper or 2. Also some sheets for skid plates. Thanks in advance.

You're looking for either DOM (drawn over mandrel) or HREW (hot rolled electric welded). DOM is going to be more expensive, and depending on who you talk to not necessary for the average offroader and I tend to agree. Nascar Nextel Cup cars use DOM for their cages to give you an idea. .095 is as small as you'd want to go, where .120 is about perfect for most applications for offroading. Also, DOM is not as readily available and usually requires special ordering. If you go square tube for sliders, it will be in HREW form. But anyway:

Steel Engineers Inc. (702) 795-0023

Curtis Steel Co. Inc. (702) 952-3000

P & S Metals & Supply (702) 367-1701

Their are others, I've just dealt with these 3 in the past. I usually get my tube and plate from SEI or Curtis, just depends on who has what I need and how much they want for it at the time. Steel is affected by the stock market and can literally changes prices daily, though not as bad since the economy dumped. Both have displays showing what they have or can get too, so you can figure out which way you want to go. Tube comes in lengths and plate is usually 3' x 6' for the piece IIRC.
