Here's a short explanation that I found about the cemetery east of Searchlight that we usually stop at when we're out exploring in this area. This will be part of my November club run.

" The cemetery that a dog built..... The cemetery near Searchlight on the power line road in called the Tobey Barnes Cemetery. Tobey had a beloved dog named "Ring", he buried Ring there. When Tobey died he wanted to be buried next to his beloved dog. Thus started a cemetery where people could be buried near their pets! There used to be a sign on the road, I think they removed it in the mid 80's. The cemetery is before the National Park Service boundary.... it must be on BLM land. I'm just guessing. There is also a grave their for Max Sterling, he was known in Searchlight as "Miserable Max". I lived in Cottonwood Cove from 1974-1981, my father was a park ranger there.... that is how I know the history."

Steve,, it would be great to have a 'Brad Dude' type of oratory on this run ! It sure makes it more interesting to have someone tell us the history and about what we see on these runs. I plan on being on this one,,, finally !! Phil
