If any of you are interested in trains, you might want to know that Union Pacific Steam Train Number 844 is making a grand circuit of the southwest over the next few weeks in conjunction with state centennial celebrations in New Mexico and Arizona.

It is scheduled to arrive in Las Vegas at 1:45 PM on Sunday November 20, at 1001 Ironhorse Ct., and be on display all day Monday.

The travel/display schedule for the train is:
http://www.up.com/aboutup/special_train ... ails.shtml

You can track it on the Web because it is transmitting its GPS coordinates to a special map:
http://www.up.com/aboutup/special_train ... /trace.cfm

Google UP 844 to see pictures of the train.

Rex,

I always knew about the "nut" part... :D

I'm thinking of being there on Sunday the 20th to see it roll in.

Maybe UP844 can be switched to run up the Las Vegas & Tonopah to Rhyolite!

According to the map link Dawn posted, the train should be following the tracks along I-15. Anyone interested in possibly meeting in Jean to watch the train go by???

Meeting in Jean sounds good to me. Then, we can race it back to Vegas, and watch it arrive again!

I don't think the DOE will give them permission to pass at Mercury.

And the bridge is out in Condor Canyon, so the Jackrabbit Spur is out too.

I'm hoping to catch it coming up Rainbow Canyon, then boogie over to Milford, UT to catch it rolling in.
