if your in 4lo and your front didn't do anything - You gotta problem or not enough power to turn the wheels

On your front axel there is a round cylinder on the right side. There are vacuum lines that go to it from the transfer case. These lines are plastic and get brittle after a few years and break, or the diaphragm in the cannister goes bad. This is what locks the right axel to the left axel. If this doesn't work no 4X4. You can buy a new vacuum harness or you can find where it is broken and splice it with rubber vacuum hose. ( it may be broken in several places. The lines could also be plugged with dirt.
I removed my vacuum system and installed a cable system which is much better.
It's all about how much you want to spend. the rubber vacuum splice is the cheapest way to go.

If you don't have a locking front axel then the problem is somewhere else. Like you said either in the transfer case or the front axel. Could be a broken chain in the transfer case or a broken front axel or something wrong with the diff.

May try geting all four off the ground (jack stands under axles and extreme caution) and seeing what turns and what doesn't. If the xfer doesn't turn the driveshaft it's the xfer. If the driveshaft turns but not the wheels (one wheel for open dif) then its in the dif or axle.
Just my $00.02 adjusted for inflation.
