Hi to all, I already have a hitch on the motorhome. Looking for ideas on towing the jeep. I have the stock front bumper on my jeep. I know I want the telescoping type tow bar. where do I start or go as I begin my research.

thanks for all comments

There are too many options to list here. Probably the best place to look at the type of towbar that you are interested in would be Camping World in Henderson or Vegas Trailer Supply on Fremont. You should also look at some kind of braking system. Once again, too many options.

I use a Sterling towbar by Roadmaster along with a SMI braking system. When I get home from work, I can get some info tegether for you to look at. Depending on how soon you want this setup, you can always visit the Mobile Mansion crew while we are in Beatty for the Club Run. I known others will chime in about what they are using to tow with.

Mr.D I also use the SMI braking system for my TJ. Very easy to set up.
I just purchased a Blue Ox telescoping tow bar from AdventureRV.net. The Aventa LX is 10k rated . Cheaper at Adventure than going thru Blue OX

Here are a couple of links for RV's and towing.
http://www.rv.net
http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/listings/forum/31.cfm
http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/13200019.cfm

You can spend days looking on RV.net. Talk about information overload. But, you can find the answer to almost any question that you might come up with.

If you need any help setting up a braking system or rigging the lights on the Jeep, I will be more than happy to help.

jean has dickie's magnetic mount tow lights and may still have his towbar. if i remember right it's a blue ox set-up to tow a yj by the front shackles but can be converted fairly cheap.

Mr D I use the" ready brake" for towing my jeep. it is similar to a surge brake, can be had as a receiver adapter or as a tow bar with brake in the towbar. uses a cable from brake pedal to mh or to tow bar, been using for 8 years with my TJ and now with my JK. eliminates need for jeep mounted brake system. I think whatever way you want to go is whatever works best for you. a supplemental brake system is really essential

Just so you know Kelly. I have a towbar that I bought from Harbor Freight (5000#) for $50 and the magnetic lights I got from them for $20. I have towed my Jeep from Sacramento,Ca to Boulder City,NV. with this setup and had no problems. Towed it with a Dodge pickup and no aux. braking system. The stock bumper will not work for a towbar it needs to be heavier steel.
