This is what I'd love to see Jeep build ...

Image

Build it on the current 4-door JK Rubicon chassis; if not long enough, extend it a bit. Make it a true body on frame pickup with an extended cab and a minimum six foot bed. It should be easy enough for Jeep to do in house with existing or modified existing hardware.

If Jeep built that, I'd be very tempted when it comes time to retire my Tacoma TRD.

In the link I posted, there's a photo of something similar, they are calling it a Gladiator. Lame name, but I like the style. It has an extended cab for extra room inside, which would be a plus for taller folks as single door Wranglers can be cramped. But I'd never trade in for it IMO. I need the hauling/towing weight rating that only a real 1/2 ton truck could provide. Besides, the concept is a few years old and likely scrapped for now. But if they built the Lower 40, I would be severely tempted to sell the Scout and get one. It's amazing how quick fuel injection and A/C will pollute your mindset :?

That was the name of Jeep's full size pickups from the 1960s. The J-10, J-20 series.

My Tacoma currently has just over 132,000 miles on it. I plan on keeping it until it's no longer practical to keep it, which might mean as much as another decade. Who knows what will be on the market then? Maybe we won't need 4x4, because we'll be flying Aerocars or Jetson flying saucers and don't need to touch tire to the ground ...

The brute is a kit that can be built out of any TJ. I think AEV sells the kit.

The BRUT kit has been for sale in the Quadratec catalog for years. I have wanted to do the conversion from the TJ to the BRUT, but I don't have the extra $9000 to spend for the kit. Since I first saw it, the catalog isn't carrying the kit anymore, but AEV still has it.

Sounds like fun though. But, if Chrysler did it, they'd charge twice as much, and release it on a 2WD chassis only.

It's called the Lower Forty and was built by Mopar's Skunk Works. The concept was to stuff 40" tires under a JK without any lift at all. The height of the project vehicle is lower than a stock JK. The engineers who built it caution against trying it yourself saying only that every body panel is custom and it is the most expensive method by which to put large tires under a Wrangler.

I guess Chrysler did do something stupid ... that has got to be the most ridiculous looking Wrangler I've ever seen ... Totally out of proportion.

Looks like it's got a good center of gravity though. Less rollovers?

Plus it's got one of those Hemi things you Chrysler people are so happy about.
