The U.S. Fish and Wildlife have asked us (NVBR) to get a list of safety rules for 4 Wheelin'. They want to have a display in their new facility at Corn Creek. The club voted that we do so, at the August club meeting. All suggestions are welcome, from the obvious to the ones people forget about. Please post your suggetions here.

The list will be long, that's for sure. Might break it down into catagories. Such as preparation, personal needs, vehicle needs, behavior on the trail and such.

One item must be there- make sure a responsible someone knows where you went, and when you will be expected to make contact again.

I would " keep it simple". Our club list of equipment and driving rules is a good place to start.

Please remember: this list of "rules" is truly for the tourist, not for the hard core four wheelers. It's to discourage the sedan drivers from getting to bold. Not for the four wheelers who basically (or at least should) know what they are doing.

Well, then as stated before, simplicity is best. I'm not familiar with the Corn Creek trail system nor the area for that matter. Never been on the US95 side of the Spring Mountains.

Here's a basic list to build upon. Since it would be likely that tourists renting 4WD vehicles might take the trail, I put that last item in the Vehicle Needs section.

If the trail system is only through the dunes area of Corn Creek, then I suppose SUVs need not apply ... period.

---------------------------------------------

VEHICLE NEEDS
Stock jack and tools designed to work jack and spare tire winch (if applicable).
Spare tire at recommended pressure.
A can or two of Fix-A-Flat.
4WD system is connected and working (if renting a 4WD vehicle).

PERSONAL NEEDS
Clothing for current weather and extremes. Including shoes.
Water for each person for at least one day further than intended length of stay.
Sufficient food for each person for at least one day further than intended length of stay.
Cellular Phone.
Good map of area of trail.
"Bug out bag" (small backpack) to carry food, water and personal needs if necessary to hike out if stranded.

MISCELLANEOUS
Itinerary with family or friends with instructions when to alert authorities (in case of unintended tardiness returning).
Writing impliments in case of necessity to leave stranded vehicle. Write number in party, direction of travel on foot.
