UNBELIEVABLE..if u have a 5th wheel with a gvwr of >10k YOU NEED "J" endorsement! I went through the ringer in Mesquite at the DMV and I am exhausted trying to find someone there who actually knows the law...Carson City seems to have it going on but not Mesquite or Las Vegas at Donovan Way. Now I need to find someone who has an endorsement or a class A to be with my wife and I as we attempt to tow the fifith wheel with jeep on a flat tow...anybody? John and chris will go up separately but Barb too afraid to drive long distance...thnaks,

Not suprized that the DMV does not know thier own laws. I went through that trying to get clasic plates for our VW. Local DMV denied them, Carson City agreed that they were wrong, but at the counter they are the expert and you are wrong. Might help if you can quote the NRS right from thier website but doesn't mean they will know what to do.

UPDATE...Like Justin said, read the NRS...so I did and yes I do need the Class A even though I won't have enough weight. So now to do the drive skills, I need to put myself and rig at risk for insurance issues as ...where the hell can I borrow or even rent a fifth wheel to get to the primary weight of 26,001#, deduct the trucks 11,500# gvwr which = 14,501#...truck is rated to tow 15,500# and hook the jeep up with gvwr = 4450#? I will be over the tow capibility of the truck? It almost seems as though they don't want you towing multiples if your rig is under 26,001# for the drive test? The law is ambigious using the R & J endorsements which I thought seemed clear, sort of, if you were under 26k...now what? Anyway...WE ARE GOING UP Friday mid-day anyway BUT Barb will have to drive the jeep...some deal huh?

In the mean time I am still at war with a particular person and her ontaraje' (sp) of 'specialists' who are emphathetic as to who is really right. So yes I will be at least trying to study the Class A ..(again) to do the written part and worry about the drive skills later...If they can't give me a waiver as to the testing weight, I will hold off for a while...I will have a year to do that.

What's the official deal for meals on Saturday nite? We bring our own meat but with a dish for all to share, so do we all use the same grill?

Check the April Club Run post for travel for meals.

Just currious, Is the J endorsement the right one? I was at the Henderson DMV Wed to renew my C/M license and while waiting was looking at the endorsments on the application (had plenty of time).
J was Class C vehicle towing more than 10k and R was Class C vehicle towing combination but less than 10k. I didn't ask if the J included combination towing over 10k.

On the plus side I was in and out in 1hr 15mins. :?

Regor there is a place in Boulder City that rents a truck and trailer for the class A endorsement. I have a class A CDL but I will not be going on this trip I have other plans. If you need any help with your endorsement I can try and answer any questions you have, I've been driving a semi for 33 years so I have a little experience.

Regor, I have been runnig into this same type of crap since I moved here dealing with Property Management, HOA's, DMV, Clark Co, etc and the response I always seem to get is "Welcome to Las Vegas".

I'm starting to feel like I moved out of the country instead of to a different state.

I find asking Carson via email a question, then taking the email with the senders contact in helps. I had the local CDL DMV fighting with their supervisors in Carson over the phone one time. But I got what I wanted which was what Carson said was right. One thing you have to realize is that the rest of state hates Clark County, and Clark County hates the rest of the state. So even though up north they might have it right, down here they don't care as they do as they please.

But since I work for the state I understand it all, though I don't agree, and feel we need to seriously cut some of the idiots we got. I know it'd help my blood pressure greatly if we started in my dept.

They do have a non commercial class A you could look into as well.
