I'm coming down to Vegas at the end of the month and I'm just looking for suggestions for a easier scenic ride in the Vegas general area. Any suggestions?

Bitter Springs is a nice scenic trail that is approximately 26 miles long and runs from the Valley of Fire exit to North Shore Drive along Lake Mead. It's one of my all time favorites and the first trail I ever ran.

Logandale Trail System. http://www.offroadadventureguide.com/Riding_Areas/Loganadale_Trails.html

The Logandale Loop starts up near Logandale, goes south through the Valley Of Fire State Park and empties out into Overton. Return to Las Vegas via routes 169 & 167, Northshore Drive alongside Lake Mead.

though it's a bit of a drive, I would also suggest Packsaddle Loop trail for scenery. really nifty views out that way, and I hope to do that trail again, once I get my jeep into off-roading shape again.

I've been on The Mattahorn, The Shizter, Rock Bottom, the Bowl Trail, 13 Loop, Arocalypse & Dusty plenty of times, so something alot less then those. I actually prefer the more scenic over the more challenging. Bitter Springs and Packsaddle don't sound bad. Do you per chance have any GPX files that you like to share or some sort of directions? Nothing closer to Vegas worth while I guess.

4Banger where are you hiding at bro?

Email's sent with both saved as gpx files. I hope that you get them okay. :D

Thanks a bunch!

Anyone know how to "hide" waypoints on National Geo Topo so it just shows a route? I can't figure it out.

Looks like I got a ton of trails to run down there now. Thanks again

Bumping a really old post as I search through old messages. Any chance that I can get a set of the gpx files for the Bitter Springs trail? Also, I read there is a back country byway map at the BLM offices, but I was trying to find one online as well without and success.

Thanks,
Todd

I have it, it's a pretty darn boring trail IMO.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Being as Bitter Springs is a designated BLM Back Country Byway and got this designation because of it's scenic quality I, and others here, find it a great trail. You asked for an "easier scenic ride in the Vegas general area" and were given one. From looking at the gpx files on a computer you have determined that Bitter Springs is "a pretty darn boring trail IMO". You're probably right, Bitter Springs isn't the trial for you. I hope you find one that is.

You're right you're entitled to your opinion as well as I and I'm certainly did not start nor intend on making this a pissing contest but let me clarify one of your remarks, I did not base my opinion on "looking at a gpx file". I based it on running over 300 trails in the last three years, "literally", in Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, and Arizona to include "actually running" the Bitter Springs trail. It would rank in the bottom of those 300 whether it's a scenic byway or not. Pretty bland for my taste after running scenic trails such as Kings Basin, Poughkeepsie Gultch in Colorado or the likes, of any of 50 or so trails in San Juan County, Kane County, or Washington County in Utah, or such trails as I just completed like Moss Wash and Secret Pass in Arizona. It's an opinion, don't take it personal.

Well you are entitled to your opinion, and I am to mine. You may find the folks at Vegas Valley 4 Wheelers, Las Vegas Off Road or Total Karnage may offer up better trails for you to try. Google them and you'll find their websites. You say you didn't intend to start a pissing contest but you have and you've done it on my board. I suggest you try the above mentioned groups in the future for your "trail suggestions". I'm sorry you don't find our trails up to snuff compared to the beauty of your Utah trails. Oh well. I hope you find a trail up to your rateings but I doubt you'll find it here in southern Nevada. Maybe the other clubs can help you. End of topic.
