Sheila...

What you are describing is what happened to Chris and I on the Gold Butte run last month.

Our TJ ran OK when we started the run, but by the time we stopped for lunch, the battery went south. After we got it started, we disconnected the battery and drove back to Mesquite on the alternator. The check engine light was on because of the battery. We got our TJ in Sept. of 03, so the battery was almost 4 years old. We were lucky to get that much time out of it. Bob, Brad and the others are quite right, it is your battery.

The same thing happened with our Dodge Durango a couple of years ago before we became jeep owners again.

We have a Optima in one of our jeeps, and have abused it with some heavy winching (Just ask Geno when we watched us winch us and him up a snow covered trail).

Any of the spiral cell type batteries are better then the standard wet cell batteries in our jeep off the dealers lot.

Well, I got the batteries back from auto zone today and put one in the KJ. It started up just fine. I am thinking that i just may take the stock battery out the the TJ and put it in the KJ that way I have two red tops for the TJ. I'm just still amazed that it just up and quit working while i was gone for a few days. I'm glad that it up and running. Again, thanks everyone for your inputs.

Sheila,,, why would you want to keep a "stock '02" five year old battery out of your TJ when you have 2 Red Top's ???? It's no fun to get stuck in the parking lot of a shopping center , or at work ... Dump it,,, and put the other 'Red Top' in the KJ.... It's amazing the stock TJ battery has lasted this long.... Just do it !!! Why get let down again ???
