Ok, boys and girls and kids of all ages, time to start planning for the weekend. Geno has confirmed the dates for our annual weekend. July 26-28, 2013.

More details to come as we get closer to that time.

It will be a great time had by all. Awesome trails, great food and even better friends.

The family and I will be there. Will there be LWB/wide butt friendly trails?

Of course, your truck will handle all the trails that will be offered.

I have to back out of this one, as much as I hate to. We are going to Monterey that weekend.

Put in for time off. Hope to make it this year. The other years have been a great way to get the heck out of the city.

My family and I are new to Nevada Backroaders. Can someone tell me more about this trip? Looks to be overnight? Camping? Are the trails difficult? Etc. We would like to see about going

Thanks

Jeff

Jeff,
This is our annual weekend with the White Pine 4 Wheelers in Ely. All runs are usually easy, although one might be a little tougher but not by much. These will be very scenic runs. All runs will meet at the Sinclair gas station on Hwy 50 East of Ely. Not yet sure what time and trails. Usually there is a choice of up to 3 trails per day. Trails range from 6000 feet elevation to over 10,000 feet. Probably some of the most beautiful trails in the state. Runs will be on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Club provides the BBQ dinner on Fri and Sat nights. There will also be a getogether BBQ on Thursday night for those who arrive early. All off-trail activities will be held at Geno and Corals house aka Trailcat resort in Ruth about 5 miles west of Ely. There probably will be a raffle on Friday night.

As far as where to stay, there is a topic under July run to help you decide. Maybe some others can recommend places depending on what you will require. In short, if camping you can stay at Cave Lake SP. or the KOA Campground in Ely. There are plenty of hotel/motel/no-tell places in town.

If you can take exra time, there are some great things near Ely to explore or see. Great Basin Nation Park is about an hour or so east of Ely. Known for Lehman Caves that you can take guided tours through. There also is the Nevada Northern Railway. Excellent for their Stream Train rides. I would recommend that. Last year during the trail ride, the Ghostriders of Ely robbed the trail. Several members of the Club belong to the Ghostriders. You can even go to Garnet Hill to look for real garnets.

Hopefully this has helped answer your questions. FYI...keep checking the Message Board. People do list when they are traveling up. You might be able to join their caravan and travel together.

We plan on making the trek to at least visit, not sure if we'll be doing any runs though. It's up to Karen, she has to drive. Plus we're not sure if we're coming up Thursday or Friday morning, depends on previous engagements.

If you've never been to Ely highs mid 80's lows mid 50's at night. Much
cooler up in the mountains. Be sure to have a jacket / light blanket for the trail, just in case. May even have a sprinkle or 2 . Don't forget your folding chairs / mini table for lunch & dinners.

10 day weather shows chance of rain right now through the week into the weekend. For anyone that has never been, that means take proper clothing/jackets. Like Darrel mentioned, the higher altitudes mixed with rain/hail makes it chilly at times for those not expecting it.
