Where:
Mount Irish Rock Art and Archaeological District north of Alamo, NV.

Meet:
8:00 AM, roll at 8:30 AM Saturday 5/19/12. Meet at the "R" Place Shell Station in Ash Springs, NV. It's 98 miles from Las Vegas on US 93, 7 miles north of Alamo, NV. Take I-15 north like you are going to Mesquite or Utah and take exit 64, which is the next exit after Apex (exit 58). It will be marked with town names like Alamo, Ely, Caliente. There's a Love's Truck Stop on the west side of the highway. Figure about a 1 1/2 hour drive from the Spaghetti Bowl.

Trail:
We'll go to the Mt. Irish Petroglyph site, the ghost town of Logan, the mill site of Crescent, and the Rosario Mine. The Irish site is considered one of the best collections of rock art in southern Nevada. The trail is very easy, I rate it a solid 1.5, due to the fact it's a one lane road at Logan Pass. But a 2 wheel drive high clearance vehicle can do the trail as it's graded on a yearly basis by the BLM. It's also semi short, so we'll have lots of time to explore the 3 'glyph sites and town ruins. But as always, bring lunch and other necessities. Plan on dressing in layers as it will be cooler than Vegas, but it's at a high enough altitude to cause sun burn. We'll make a loop, so you can plan on coming back through Alamo on your way home.

There's a Sinclair gas station in Alamo with a full service grocery store for provisions, and the "R" Place has a grill and sandwiches available as well for anyone that forgets anything. There's also a truck stop just past the Sinclair in Alamo.

I'll put up another post with info for lodging/camping for anyone interested.

Here's a link to some pics I took a couple of years ago. Not much has changed, although the BLM has been doing some work in Logan to make the structures "safer"; which I shall leave at that. BTW, the Southpaw Mine at the end will not be on this run due to issues with the road.

Just an FYI, the Nevada Open Road Challenge will be going on this weekend, and while it won't be an issue for us, the over flow motel/hotel acoomadations in Ely tend to spill over into the Alamo area. So if anyone planned on staying over night, you might want to look into rooms ASAP. The next nearest location for rooms would be Caliente, which is 55 miles farther north of Alamo.

I don't think anyone RV'ing/camping would have an issue.

They are also looking for course workers and Hamm operators for the race Sunday, so if you're interested: http://www.silverstateclassic.com/course_workers.aspx Click on "Race Volunteers" on the top menu for more info.

I would like to know if anyone is camping Friday night. I will be attending this run, but would prefer to drive up Friday instead of Saturday morning. If anyone is planning to do so, please let me know where we can meet, or let me know the location of the campsite.

I'm going to be in town after all so I'll see you guys at Love's if I can get there in time or at the meetup spot. It'll be a day run for me also.

Looking forward to seeing you Gary. It's been about a year and a half.

"R Place" makes some home made cinnamon rolls that will send your blood sugar to the moon. If you're there early enough they'll still be warm. :)
