Okey Dokey, after crossing off numerous dead end trails I found one that will work. So here it is:

Where:

Mt. Irish

Meet:

8:00 AM, roll at 8:30 AM Saturday 6/26/10. Meet at the R Place Shell Station in Ash Springs, NV. It's 98 miles from Las Vegas on US93. 7 miles north of Alamo, NV. Take I-15 north like you are going to Mesquite or Utah and take exit 64, which is the next exit after Apex (exit 58). It will be marked with town names like Alamo, Ely, Caliente. There's a new Love's Truck Stop on the west side of the highway. Figure about a 1 1/2 hour drive from the Spaghetti Bowl.

Trail:

We'll go to the Mt. Irish Petroglyph site, the ghost town of Logan, the mill and town site of Crescent, and the Rosario Mine. The Irish site is considered one of the best collections of rock art in southern Nevada. The trail is very easy, I rate it a solid 1.5 due to the fact it has some mild rocky sections and a one lane summit at Logan Pass. But a 2 wheel drive high clearance vehicle can do the trail. In fact I passed 2 while up there. It's also semi short, so we'll have lots of time to explore the 3 'glyph sites and town ruins. But as always, bring lunch and other necessities. Plan on having some protection from exposure to the sun as well.

I shall put up another post with info for lodging/camping for anyone interested.

Some pics I took while exploring, unless you don't like spoilers, then don't click:

The Southpaw Mine in my pics will not be on the agenda due to it's remoteness from the rest of the trail. I tried to tie others in, but the area is very over grown and rough, and due to it's age (mostly mined in the mid to late 1800's) there's only a couple of spots worth going to. But anything you might want to know about it I can tell you.

Forgot:

The Love's Truck Stop runs about average of Vegas gas prices suprisingly. IIRC it was 5 cents more than around the corner from me the other day. There's a Sinclair in Alamo, and a Shell in Ash Springs. There's also a dump truck stop in Alamo. I mean it's a dump, not just for dump trucks  The Sinclair and Shell are suprisingly close in price usually, though the Sinclair is usually a cent or two cheaper. There's also a full sevice grocery store in Alamo at the gas station. The station we are meeting at does have a grill and can make stuff along with what they have already have premade.

I'll be there. I love this area! Maybe a side trip to the Little A'Le'Inn in Rachel if time allows after the run.

We will miss this run due to a Colorado trip. Missed last month because we were in Idaho. Setting sights for Ely in July.

Sorry, unavoidable: I won't be able to attend this run. Family emergency in Oklahoma. Someone will be at the run to represent NVBR officers. Wish me well.

Won't be able to make it either. Had to go back to midwest to visit family and friends till the 23rd and I noticed two large fluid puddles under my xj before we left and I think one of my u-joints is going bad. So I don't know when I'll be able to attend my second club run since I joined!
