Elisabeth and I are leading the Feb (can I call it a Sweet-Hearts run) club run.

We are heading to Aztec wash via Electric ave. So pack a lunch, your lawn chairs and bring your sweetheart for a picnic lunch at the Colorado river at Aztec Wash.

Saturday February 13
Meet at Railroad Pass Hotel & Casino 8:00am, Roll at 8:30am
93/95 just east of Henderson

GPX track/route of Proposed route from railroad pass to Aztec can be downloaded here: http://www.danielsperformance.com/backroad/Traks/Feb-Club-Run.gpx right click save it to your computer then send to your GPS with your GPS software.
Includes way point of Railroad Pass

I'm rating this trail a 2+ and recommend the following:
1. 4x4 not an AWD.
2. Stock 4x4 truck/SUV clearance or more. Ground effect plastic and running boards may be damaged.
3. Two speed transfer case so you can run low range on the extended steep down hills

Leaving from Railroad pass casino hotel, we will drive 25 miles of paved HWY 95 (sorry) before getting in the dirt at Grandpa Rd. where we will air down.

The weather is forecast to be good. The trail is a fun one with beautiful views. And of course picnic lunch at the Colorado river which is very high right now.

We will come out near Nelson NV, and take that paved road back to 95 near the dry lake bed.

If you have any questions please PM me.

See everyone at 8am at the Railroad Pass Hotel Casino.

Mike & Elisabeth

Sounds good! I've never run this trail from West to East (I think that's what you described). I'll be there! I can't find a single time this was run as a club run, but it could have been before my time.

i lead a group from nelson to fire mountain point then up the trail from aztec wash to us95. i think it was early 2004 or 2005, same year we had all the heavy spring rains and the once in a century wildflower bloom. had a decent size group. but no, we've never run it down to the water. 8)

Well, I don't know about before your time, Tom. I found this shot in my album NBR Nelson Area Club Run 05-05-07. I always name the albums of Club Runs with NBR, but I could have incorrectly labeled it as so. Anyway, here's the pic and that is you...LOL Not unless Idget was driving and left you at home. LOL This went from a dirt pile 2 miles south of the Nelson turn off, then over to Knob Hill, then we did Electric Ave and Firehouse Cove (I think that was the name or something to that effect anyway), before coming out at Copper Canyon. Anyone else remember that day? Geno was leading. He and Rubicon Bob put plastic wrap around their Jeeps as a joke, to keep from getting desert pin stripping.

I was on that run and remember it well, unlike some people my age.

I'm going to try to make the run. It will be my final Backroaders run for a while. I'm headed to Japan in March for three years.

This run is the same day as my younger son's 16th Birthday. I might be able to talk him into starting his day with some offroading if I let him drive. We will see...

The short answer is yes.
Like all club runs it is doable with a stock 4x4. It does have some sharp corners on the switch back shelf road. I have driven it with my stock 4x4 Suburban.

I'm brining the Jeep this time

Mike
