I'll be leading this trip on November 14. Meet at the Terrible's/McDonalds at the top of the hill on highway 95 through Searchlight. We'll roll out of there are 9:00AM. We'll be taking Route 164 toward Nipton, and leaving this road for the dirt a few miles outside of Searchlight.

The trail heads through a beautiful forest of large Joshua Trees. Part of this forest, though not the part we're going through, is officially called the Wee Thump Joshua Tree Wilderness Area. Wee Thump is Yuman for “ancient ones” , and it refers to the ancient Joshua Trees of the area. We'll take a brief detour from the main trail to see some petroglyphs, and stop to inspect an old cattle corral that has a curious water tank. The trail eventually dips down into a wash that winds its way through the Highland Mountain Range. We'll stop at Cow Spring, where there are some old stone walls/foundations, and a spring that may have a bit of water. We'll also take a side trip up to a very large guzzler maintained for Bighorn Sheep. This site overlooks a rather stunning dropoff. Eventually, we'll end up on a powerline crossroad. Folks can either hoof it from there back to Route 95 north of searchlight, or, continue on the dirt while longer, ending up at Nevada Solar One, the largest concentrated solar power plant in the world. This will be a full-day trip. Bring lunch, plenty of water, a camera, yadda yadda yadda. I haven't been on this route in several years, so will be pre-running it at some point to make sure it is still stock-friendly. I'll update this notice if necessary.

Here are a couple of websites that may interest folks.

If I'm off the mountain by then, I'm, er we're in. I might even take one of them bath things. No promises on a fresh shaving though.

We will be there. Hmmmm...I see the opportunity for a camp out at Smudgeons. Any takers? We have not camped out there since we woke up to snow! That was after the March club run 2008. The wind was so bad on Sat nite that hwy 95 back to Vegas was closed down shortley after the folks that were not camping headed for home. There's nothing much better than a campfire and dinner after a good day in the dirt! Chris

Chris: We would like to formally confirm our reservations at Smudgens camp ground , resort, and RV park. We will be arriving Friday nite and leave Sunday evening. So , if you would make reservations for us and make sure we have a camp site we would appreciate it. Others who want to camp out there better get your reservations in early. :D Rex

I should be able to make this one.
Gotta drop my wife off at the airport at 7am, so shouldn't have any trouble being in Searchlight by 9am. :D

We are planning on a campfire at Smudgeon's :D . Hopefully there won't be any hunters parked out there. I really doubt that we will get any snow, but the wind - well, no promises there. Ya just can't try to outguess Mother Nature. I know that we will be there along with Rex and Shirley, don't know about anyone else, yet. The last I heard, Bob and Shirley won't be able to make the camp out :( . Chris

As Chris said, Shirley and I can't make the run or the campout. I am stuck having to be at the Convention Center all weekend setting up for the G2E Gaming Show. I hope everyone has fun.
