Ok. Time to gear up for the clean-up run over Mormon Well,

We will have 2 "leaders" on this run. One on each end. We will need at least 8 rigs with GPS to make this work. Four on one end and four on the other. Hopefully we'll have 8 rigs at the beginning of each end. We will be cleaning in small 4-5 mile sections hopefully with at least 2 in each group. That way we can get the whole trail done in one day and still have time to wheel. We'll meet at the top of the trail at the campground for lunch.
Fish and Wildlife will provide the garbage bags.

Hope to see you all there!

Tom,,, one way or the other, come 'hell or highwater' I plan to be there ! All I have is the bottom of the line E-Trex GPS... I don't even know how to use it properly,, so I won't be much use to you there. I use it primarily for heading and altitude readings. This will be a great club project and lot's of fun too !! Thanks for the work of putting it together... I'm willing to start at either end, whatever you need... Phil

We'll bring a pickup as well. What time are we meeting? East or West, let me know where help is needed.

Justin,

Thanks for the info on the trail location.

I talked briefly to Tom. We may concentrate are efforts on the Corn Creek side, since that is the area with the most trash.

:!: Due to the nature of this Club event there will be no $5 visitors fee.
It was a unanimous decision by all officers.

We will ALL meet at the ranger station at Corn Creek at 8:00 AM. From the Rainbow curve, North on US 95 about 25 miles to the Corn Creek / Desert Wildlife Refuge sign. Turn right and it's another 4 miles to the ranger station.

We will split up into 5 small groups, each taking a nice, slow ride for approximately five miles of clean up. So you drive normally until you reach your starting point, then slow down for the clean-up, then normally again to the camp area where we'll have lunch and a club meeting. Three groups will be needed to finish the cleanup and end at the US 93.
Probably 50 miles from US 93 to Vegas.

Hope to see you all there! This is a chance to give back a little to the community.

For what it's worth,

I ran the Mormon Well trail on Tuesday. From Corn Creek to 93 and back to Vegas. The trail needs work, it looks like the rains last week washed out some sections. The trail was nearly free of trash and the like, we picked up what we saw as always. But... At least one picnic table in a camp site needed some wrench work (no tools with me), and the "lower trail" the part of the trail that can be run through the creek bed just east of sawmill canyon has gotten a lot more difficult than it was in the spring.

Otherwise, this should be a nice run, a fairly casual day, and not too much to clean up. (I admit I was afraid to look in the restrooms at the campsites)

Since it is NOT on one of my days off, I will be forced to miss this month's club run AGAIN :(

One of these days, I will have a 9-5 Mon-Fri job, and I will finally understand how it is the rest of you live. :D

Travis

Desert National Wildlife Refuge
Two projects are planned. A jeep club will be driving across the Refuge picking up trash. Also, a small group of volunteers will be hiking to one of our back country springs to clear vegetation and roots that are impacting its flow. This activity will open the spring for greater wildlife use.

A BIG thanks goes out to everyone that showed up. Hopefully, this made a great first impression with Amy.

14 vehicles/22 people showed up. Good showing, but could have been better. Especially with the Club being about 100 members strong.
