Titus Canyon

DV Park Site with wildflower updates:
http://www.nps.gov/deva

Date: April 19

Meeting: Beatty, NV. Stagecoach Hotel & Casino parking lot.
Meet 08:00 Roll 09:00

Meet and fuel in Beatty, NV, aprox 120 miles from Vegas North on 95.
This is an all day trail with lunch in the ghost town of Leadfield. Aprox 30 miles of trail and 70 miles round trip to beatty.
There are places to stay in Beatty or it is possible to round trip to Vegas as we did our first time. There are also links for accomodations on the parks website. The trail meets pavement between Scotty's Castle and Stovepipe Wells if you wish to do your own thing from there, otherwise we will continue back to the ghost town of Ryolite for a leisurely visit as there is much to see and this will be the end of the trip. Please check out the park service web site for more info.

Trail description from Park service:

Titus Canyon Road (one-way section)
High clearance 2WD. 26 mile one-way section starts off Nevada Hwy 374. Road surface varies from washboard to wash outs across the road that would cause 2WD vehicles or small trucks to become high-centered. RVs and campers are too large and unstable to travel safely. Red Pass grade is steep and narrow, with sharp switchbacks and protruding rocks and potholes. Road is often closed in winter due to snow or flooding. Sometimes has rough washboard the first four miles. No camping, day use only.
Titus Canyon Road (two-way section)
Most vehicles. 3 mile graded gravel, two-way road section off Scotty's Castle Road is rocky but passable to most sedans. No large RVs or trailers due to limited parking and turn around space at trailhead. Provides hiker access to Fall Canyon and the spectacular lower Titus Canyon narrows. No camping, day use only.

Thanks to all who came out and made this a great run. 23 vehicles showed up :o . Some awesome pics as well. The forcast didn't materialize and the wind wasn't an issue until we started back through DV on the blacktop, dust storm + open Jeep= My odometer read 303mi when we got home  and I didn't do the Sunday fun run.

I'm already working on that fender repair 8) I had some fibreglass cloth and epoxy in the garage, 3 ply should do the trick. I'll get a pic before I finish.
For those who missed it, during our caravan on friday a speeding 18 wheeler blew the driver front fender flare off my jeep, pulled the bolt and washer though the plastic. Fortunatly that was the only damage I know of for this weekend and it wasn't even on the trail.

Yeah, I know, trail report for the trail boss.
Anyone have anything they want noted in the report?
Anyone want to write the report? hehe
