Trail Leader: Dawn N.

Date: March 15

Time: 8:30, roll out at 9:00

Meeting Place: under the big McDonald's sign, at the top of the hill in Searchlight

Details: Trail rating is a 2, there are about 30 miles of dirt, and we'll be on the trail for about 6-7 hours. The trail turns off the road between Searchlight and Nipton, wanders through the Wee Thump Joshua Tree Forest, then meanders through the Highland Mountain Range. There are petroglyphs, a well-preserved corral, a spring, some wall foundations, and a guzzler the size of a helicopter pad, storing water in huge tanks for bighorn sheep. Terrain is varied and interesting, with Joshua trees, sandy washes, ridges covered with cacti, and a truly awesome view from the lip of a steep canyon. After leaving the mountains, you can head back to the highway, or stay on the dirt longer, and end up at Nevada Solar One - the third largest solar power station in the world.

What a fun run, thanks Dawn and Tom, for leading the run and showing us a grand time. The lunch spot was spectacular to say the least. Could have done without the cool wind, but the view was awesome.

Here is the link for the pics I took today. Thanks all for making this a successful event.

Dawn and Tom, thanks for showing us a great day in the dirt. A very scenic run. And then there was this morning at Smudgeons - woke up to SNOW! WOW! what a treat that was. We were all running around looking at everything covered in snow and taking pictures. Someone - who will remain nameless (you know who you are) thought it would be funny to throw snowballs at everyone's windows. Hehe. Here is the link to our pictures:

Dawne and Tom - thanks for a fun trip.

The campout at Smudgins was fun, especially the early morning snow.

Check out the pictures.
