This promises to be a really fun run. It will be an ALL DAY AFFAIR! It is about 100 miles to Alamo. Then another 100 miles on the dirt. Then about 60 miles back to the nearest gas station at Petro at the Race Track exit in Vegas. Half of the dirt is very well manicured dirt and can be run at 30-40 miles an hour.

After we get to Delamar there is several places people can escape early, but then you'd miss the beautiful run through Apple White Summit! Very nice and just over 7000 ft.

Have to rate this a 2-2.5 only because of very few places with a rock garden, and a few washed out roads and one off camber area. Most is a 0.5 - 1 rating. Any stock vehicle should have no trouble (as in compliance with the conditions of a club run).

Filling up in Alamo is a must. Extra gas and water and food suggested.

Come along and join the FUN!

delamar was one of the few mining camps that is well preserved.
it is a long day, yet you are on desert floor to juniper and pine on the pass.
the off-camber has a definate-ely-pucker-factor as you are on the summit.
since we, mary crooks, tom and myself, pre-ran this so early in the summer; we plan on a pre-run to check on the route before official run.
will post so the week end warriors can check it out during the week.

The reason I thought Kane Springs Road was closed was the big sign that said "Road Closed Due to Wash Out".
I'm going to pre run Monday the 24th (I think). I will probably opt to exit on Turtle Walk. There are several options. I will post the "for sure" date of the pre run soon, but I'm leaning toward the 24th.

Yeah, that sign has been there for awhile. Last time I drove Kane (after the big floods) it was fine. It's really the asphalt road between Elgin and Caliente that is washed out. And by washed out, I mean one second the road is there and the next you're dodging a massive sink hole. The state fixed some of it to the Kershaw-Ryan SP, but that's basically all that has been done.

The good news is though they up keep the Kane road for the Elgin locals. But the state claimed that the Union Pacific owned the road to Elgin. The UP said they gave it to the County (even though it has a State Route designation) and the county says they can't afford to fix it. Then the Bradshaw's who owned the Elgin "one room school house", turned it over to the state. The state added it to the Kershaw-Ryan State Park outside Caliente. Now the state has to fix all of the road to make all of the state park accessible. And they say country folk ain't bright

But another pre-run is a good idea anyway. Like I mentioned in our emails, I'd worry far more about summer rains messing the trail up than anything else.

Pre-run went smothly with a couple of wrong turns. Took a little different exit than originally planned and the run will end on 93 at Turtle Walk Road.
Thanks to Rex and Shirley; Geno, Coral, and Smudgen; and of course Beth Ann. Couldn't have done it without you!

Thank you for leading the run, Tom. We had a great time. Weather was just a little on the chilly side - but we liked it. Enjoyed everyone's company. Also, the wild horses were a great addition. Only one thing missing - no ice cream at the trails end.

Congrats on leading your first Club Run. Looks like everyone had a great time, Shirley and I included. I guess Brad trained you right, even the customary wrong turn. I agree with Rex

Thanks everyone for making my first expirience as a club run leader a great one. I thank Beth and Mary for helping me set it up, Rex and Bob for running back door ( no Rubi Curse even though Bob was back door about 30% of the time), and to every one who came along.
Lets do it again, minus the dust!

great run, it had poof dust, off-camber, wild horses and a place to stay over for us w/o the road queen RV.
will have to check out some more trails around caliente and alamo.
it was nice driving on highway 93 fully rested instead of waking up or trying to stay awake after a full day of trails.
the food at windmill ridge is just like grandma's home cooking.
nice mini vacation.
