Since Titus is finally open, and I aways work weekends, I decided to set up a run during the week. I'm going Wednesday Oct. 4th. We can meet at the 76 station on the main drag in Beatty at 9:00 am, roll at 9:30. Remember that it is about 120 miles to Beatty. The canyon road is 26 miles and it's about 30 back to Beatty, and another 120 back to Vegas. I'm going up Tuesday and may stay over Wednesday night too.
Brad said he's goin to try and make it. Beth said she'd be there. I hope to see any and everybody.

A splendid time is guarenteed for all!

i'm going to do my best to be there. it's getting a wee bit chilly here in ruth, 20 degress at 0600 this morning  , so i'm in need of the warmth of death valley and the mojave desert. :D i'm trying to make it to the 30th, when they're having the open house at the mine, but i may have to leave early if it keeps me from becoming a human ice cube. my motorhome just isn't that well insulated. 8)

FYI:

According to the highway signs today, it's officially 115 miles from Vegas to Beatty.

Gas was $.18 cheaper in Lathrop Wells, $2.81(Amargosa turn off) than Beatty, $2.99 (both stations). It's 29 miles from Lathrop to Beatty.

The older casino in Beatty (forget the name) is closed. The old Burro Inn is now the Death Valley Inn, and it's still not done, so it's closed. So you have Eddie's World and Motel 6, plus the little Mom & Pop motels to choose from.

But Brad, if you leave, then where will I stay when I go up there?

Hope the Chuckwallas and others are still active. One of our best lizard watching runs was April in Titus. Anyone interested in doing this again on a Saturday? Sorry Tom, but gotta work Wednesday.

Whats the rating on this mid week run? Is it more than scenic?

For the rating question: Probably a 1.5 rating. Maybe a 2 in a few sandy loose spots. At least this was the case the last time I ran it a few years ago. I have no idea after the rains. The NPS only suggests high clearence. Truly a senic run.

if the park service did any work to the upper trail it'll be a 1 and if not maybe a 1.5. but like tom says, it is truely a scenic trail. one of my favorites. park service used to maintain to the point regular mini-vans could run it. 8)

Great JJ. It will be good to see you there. Rex and Shirley will be coming up on Wednesday morning also. I think we will have a small but fun group. I hope to go to Rhyolite on the way back to Beaty. Lots of cool things to see in that old ghost town!

i had a blast running titus canyon yesterday. quite a weather change too. from 70+ degree days & 30degree or lower nights nights to 100+ in the bottom of the valley. then getting rained on today while driving home, man what a switch. 8)

Thanks to all who ran Titus on the 4th. Beth. Rex and Shirley, JJ, and Brad. A special thanks to Brad for relenting, and leading the run for me. I had a great time as I think everyone did. Hope to do it again soon! :D
