Phil and I have finally figured out what run to do. On Saturday 8/19, we will be running Wheeler Pass and Potato Rd. Wheeler rates about 2 - 2.5. Potato (if Red rock Canyon is open) rates a 3+. Potato has a rock garden with some good sized rocks and a few deep washouts,it is also NOT LWB friendly (sorry Mike & Tanya). We will meet at the Cold Creek turn-off from Hwy 95 (Indian Springs prison) @ 8AM. Roll out @ 8:30. Bring plenty of water, as it will still be quite warm out.

As normal, if you have any questions, give me a call. 453-2358 (late afternoons/early evenings)

Note: Wheeler is the main run. Potato is optional. if you want to come out and play on Wheeler, but not on Potato, we will understand. 8)

Awesome!! I've been wanting to go back to Potato since I got lifted!! I'll be there! :D
Mike and Tanya - if you want to go I'm sure you can probably ride with one of us. I know it's not the same, but still better than staying home.

Bob,,, thanks for the help !!! This run will "make" my sisters trip to the 'Vegas valley !!! I did find out today that she has had 2 back surgerys ,,, so we'll have to see how she feels after the Wheeler part... But somehow I'll sure that she will want to do the Potato Ridge run... The last time I did it was before my lift and tires,, and all I suffered was a tweeked rear bumper, and a 'character' scuff on my lower left rear door sill... For us 'little guys' it's a challenge... This time I plan to get some pix.... And a few videos... I hope that we have a good turn out as it's more fun with more people... See ya there Phil

Wheeler is no problem for me, but will my humble 30-in tires and limited slip get me through Potato's rock garden? I've gone from Rocky Gap road up TO the garden, but never tried to go through.

I hear tell it's possible, but mighty difficult.

Depending on who you talk to, you might be told it is stock friendly. I am NOT one of those people. Yes, I would recommend a lift. But with proper spotting, I think a stock TJ could make it thru. It might take some rock stacking or maybe a tug or two. It has been a while since I have been up there. If you did decide to go, we will attemp to get everuone thru safely. If I see that it might be too dangerous  , I have no problem turning everybody around and calling it a day.

BTW... Phil did take his stock XJ thru there a couple of months ago. I don't recall how much trouble he had. Maybe his word might be better than mine. The last time I did it, it seemed like a walk in the park. But then again, look at the way Rubi has been built.

As always, the decision is yours.

JJ,,, it's up to you ,,, but I would say "Go for it"... It's something that you will not forget... As I said in the earlier post : The last time I did it was before my lift and tires,, and all I suffered was a tweeked rear bumper, and a 'character' scuff on my lower left rear door sill... For us 'little guys' it's a challenge... Believe me,, the knots in your stomack and the sweat on your hands on the wheel will make you a believer in your Jeep.... I'll never forget my "first time" !!!! I feel more confident now that I'm 'up' 2 1/2 inches and have a couple of extra skid plates... But I'll still have that "pucker factor" to deal with... At least this time we should be doing it in the daylight... My first time was at night !!! It was like walking through a haunted graveyard at midnight !!! Just do it !!! Phil

I did it with my YJ before it was lifted and I had 31's. I didn't damage anything, I had some great spotting from Andy!!

The only trouble I had was a couple of diff hangups and alot of backing up and trying different lines since I have open diffs. I don't have limited slip either. You'll have fun, JJ.

Hey Phil....are you talking about wheeling or something else?? LOL

oh, I don't doubt the fun part!!
So far, I've done everything being basically stock that all the built rigs have done, so I'm sure I'll do alright.

I'll try it this time and then later next year, when I do have a lift and tires....

actually, if someone has a Tuesday or Wednesday available, I wouldn't mind trying a pre-run of just Potato.

hi all
did potato road with john crooks and sean a couple of months ago. looking forward to trying it again with the new "after market upgrades" i've added since then.
great selection of roads.
how about minimizing asphalt time and going over trout to lovell?
or is that already planned?
we pre-ran that with brad during the week before the official club run over wheeler.
nice view at the top of trout.
