we are open for what ever we can do in the truck, of course we would have to tag along, all of the ideas sound great to us, so if anyone is already going somewhere and we can follow, please just let us know where to meet. :D

Mike and Tayna,
I know of some trails behind Mt. Charleston that are stock friendly-2 wheel drive, great scenery, will go up to about 5000-6000 ft. and will be cooler, nice picnic areas.
This is Lovell Canyon Rd. and other BLM approved roads----Have you been there :?: The scenery is like Wheeler Pass but NO bad spots unless you want to go down a wash or something.

I ran a whole bunch of that area looking for a place to do some hamming from a few years ago. My 2WD BroncoII went everyplace a civilized human being could want, and I did about half of it again last year in a 2002 RAM 2WD short box, un-lifted.

Nice picnicky spots, some conifer smells. Quiet radio locations up there.

Only thing that would inhibit me is the notion of desert pinstriping on my hideously expensive Honda...

Mike and Tayna,
If you look in my web site, you can see some pics of the area---some in the snow

AND pin striping is charater and the wash at the bottom of the road is pretty cool but not for stock trucks.

That sounds like a good idea. I was thinking of just heading up to Mt. charleston and doing a hike maybe.

I vote this trail also.

I just looked it up on my Topo maps and there are lots of 4wd & Jeep Trails listed on the map. It looks like Grapevine Spring trails goes up by Lucky strike mine. I will print the map out so we know where we are going.
Do you want to set a time and place to meet somewhere?

We can meet at the Kyle canyon turnoff say around 8:00
Let me know if that works for everyone.

we did lovell canyon after we finished the wheeler pass run on may 20, loved it. I like trails that we need 4 wheel drive too, and i have already gotten used to the desert pinstriping with the wheeler pass run. I wouldn't want that to hold us up. We like challanges. it all sounds great to us. if anyone knows for sure that they want to go a certain way we will go to.

It appears to be a powerline road from Lucky Strike mine up to Angle Peak. Anybody know if that goes through? If so I was thinking of heading up to Big Falls or Mary Jane Falls. My brother was up there last weekend and said the falls were ICE cold with snow pack still melting.

The power line road to Angel goes all the way through. Joe has some pics on his site from a run he did on that road. Also a road from it runs down a canyon back to Kyle Canyon Road.

The Grapevine road is pretty neat, although it is washed out by Grassy Springs and may be tricky for some as it's rutted sideways so you might have one or two tires off the ground. With a few rigs it might be doable as you'd back up, and I know it has been run a few times more since I was there earlier this year, so it might be easier. Horses and deer can be seen at Grassy early in the morning.

The road to the actual Lucky Strike is badly washed out, tough on ATV's even, mostly a hike in. Now Lucky Strike Camp is worth the short trip. If you come in from Kyle on the Grapevine road (heading North) once you get past Grassy (you have to cross a pond/creek at Grassy) you will tie into the power line road to Angel. Make a left toward Angel and then the next right at the base of the hills. Follow that to the left through the wash into the canyon and back up to Lucky Strike Camp. Lots of mines and some remains, even what's left of the main camp house with fireplace. From there you can hike up the road or drive (if you dare) to a few more mine spots.

I'm going to CA for a reunion or I'd go for sure. I want to see if a road that isn't on any map ties Lucky Strike Camp to Deer Creek road and out to Lee Canyon road. But like Craig said, lots of roads up there to play on.

Man, that buck on the left has a huge spread

Especially for what looks to be only a 2X3.

Hey Craig, Angel Peak does go all the way through. Once you get back on pavement up by the kids camp, there is another trial like Gary said that is at the end of a guard rail on the right side. You'd make a left going up to the towers. It might be the second guard rail, but don't hold me to it. You might miss it because it goes down to the right. It runs you back down to Kyle Canyon road. That section is fun and has a nice waterfall we named Lucy's Waterfall. It's more fun coming up it than going down, but still fun none-the-less.

I'm going hiking on Saturday to Mary Jane Falls. I don't know the details right now. I do know that it's a singles group. I'm just going for the hike. and the exercise and to save money in gas for another day.

Grapevine is really washed out in one area getting tippy through that area, too. Plus there are a lot of shrubs to give you some good desert pinstripping. Even though all the maps I've seen don't show the trail going through, it does. There is one or two places that get a little confusing and lead to dead ends. It's a nice trial though. So is Angel Peak.

Maybe I'll see you guys heading up the road Saturday morning. I won't be in my Jeep. I'll be tagging along with a friend in her Ford Escape. Maybe I'll just crouch down so you don't see me. :P

I am new to the site and am thinking about tagging along for this run. I have been up to lucky strike before but never over angel peak. It sounds like a good time. I will be in a white 96 bronco and my name is John.

Oh and nice site by the way.
