it seems like ages ago i promised glenna & barb that i woulld take them over the gold butte blm back country byway. well we're finally going to do it. we'll be meeting in mesquite nevada where we can fill gas tanks and coolers. across from the oasis and just up from the casblanca is a large parking lot for trucks that has a mini-mart store and is right next to a gas station. we'll be meeting there at 0830 and we'll roll at 0900. this will be an all day trip so bring food & water and stuff. if you have any questions call me at 702/497-9154. 8)

Needless to say we will be there. This is a trip we have been anticipating for a long time and there was a neat article in last Sunday's Spectrum about the whole area - which has us even more excited.
Tom and Beth, there are a few caches along the way :D
Thanks, Brad :!: :!:

mesquite by 0830?
okay, for a day in dirt guess i gota make a sacrifice.....
great day running arrow yesterday.
got to experiment what my jeep can do with the front locker.
yes dicky, followed your suggestions and no more "daisy-duke'ing" up the switch backs.
guess it's locker over momentum.
we won't talk about the finesse aspects, only have been drivng the "Fly'in Monkey" since late summer of last year. there's still room for improvement....and after market upgrades.

If you haven't done Gold Butte, do it :!: It was beautiful, the flowers were just beginning to bloom, the geologic formations were awesome, add glyphs, stir in 6 Jeeps with great people and you have the perfect day :!:
Like Brad said, a 9-9 day :)
Thanks for taking us on this adventure Brad, it was a great experience :!:

Did you go by any of the springs? Or did you just go to gold butte and do the scenic byway loop? Very cool area - I agree

many thanks brad.
one more guide book for the map bag.
let's hope BLM will forget about the wash road, a few off-camber whoops-de-doodles instead of cows to wake you up.
down the calender we may have to make sure you bring DD instead of the "street " cherokee.
was looking for the smiley face thru out the day.
hope to plan a few geo-days with barb and glenna to check out the st. george back roads.
will keep you "posted"

this is kind of and interesting and eye opening fact from the trip. when we stopped at the ccc dam in whitney pocket's we could see charleston peak in the hazy distance. i broke out one of my topo mapping programs and measured the distance from where we were to charleston and guess what i came up with? 88 MILES! talk about having long vistas in the desert. 8)
