Post subject:  February 25th Fun Run

Phil Winsryg will lead a trip out of Searchlight into the Mojave to visit the old Hart Mine and the ghost town of Juan Nevada. This is an all day trip so bring lunch. This trail has a couple sections that could rate a level 2. We’ll meet in Searchlight at the Searchlight Nugget Casino at 0800 and roll at 0830. For more info call Brad at 702/497-9154.

phil and i, and a couple of other folks, just got done pre-running the trail for the upcoming february 25th club run. i need to let everyone know a few things. the majority of this trail rates about a hard 1.5 but there are a couple sections that push real close to a level 2 rating. the trail is also tight with plant growth, especially mesquite and acacia which both have thorns, and if you value the paint on your vehicle you may want to not go on this run. you will get some serious major and deep desert pinstripe. even the cholla cactus is very close to the trail and the chance of getting a cactus spine flat exists but most of all this trail is not full size/long wheel base/h1 hummer friendly. there are a number of gullies and washouts that will most likely cause a long wheel base vehicle to high-center or drag bumpers possibly bad enough to cause vehicle damage and there is one very tight section that a wide h1 hummer wouldn't make it through. sorry to be the barer of bad news to our long wheel base/h1 members but we really don't want someone tearing up their vehicle and having no fun because of it. if you have any questions please call me at 702/497-9154 8)

I just talked to Geno. Smudge's Campground & RV Resort will be open. It should be located on the road from searchlight to Nipton, about 8 miles from Searchlight. Geno will post more info next week about where it will be. 8)

Post subject:  campout

Smudgon's RV and campground will be open. We are going out on Wednesday to get set up. When you get to Searchlight go west to Nipton about eight miles. I'll have two red flags on the entrance to the Corral where we'll be camped. There is roam for about six rigs and lots of tents if need be. When you come you'll see a windmill on the right coming up the hill. The drive has two white post that will have red flags on them. Need any extra info call 702-461-2314.
Geno

Before things start to get too confusing, anybody who is interested in the campout associated with this run, please post under "Feb Fun Run Campout".

As a reminder, you don't have to camp to be able to go on the run.

So is this trail to Juan going to be okay for me? I'm all stock.

you'll be fine as long as you don't mind some desert pinstripe  and a little advise on the difficult sections. :D searchlight is about 60 miles south from the spagetti bowl. i tell folks to figure 90 minutes just to be safe. just a reminder to everyone THE SPEED LIMIT ON US95 FROM THE BOULDER CITY TURNOFF TO SEARCHLIGHT IS 60 MPH. WATCH OUT FOR NHP AND METRO. THEY LOVE TO WRITE SPEEDING TICKETS ALONG US95. 8)
