Post subject:  UPDATED TIMES on Saturday, August 22nd Fun Run

On Saturday, August 22nd, I am planning a fun run. Some of you may remember Larry, the photographer from MoabJeeper Magazine who shot the photos when the MJ crew was here and we did Potato Ridge. Well, he and his wife are going to be in town and would like to get out and get some dirt time. Since I only have one open seat, I'm hoping to get a few others to come out and play on that day who also have an open seat.

I sent Larry an email on the two trails I had in mind. One is Electric Ave with the Eagle Wash waterfall exit out, or up to do the Bowl/Matterhorn trail. I'm letting him choose the trail he finds the most interesting so the time and trail will be announced as soon as I hear back from him. I'll post it in this thread above what I wrote here.

Larry mentioned he bought a really high end video camera and wants to shoot some video. I don't know the extent of what he wants to do but it sounds like he might be putting something together with that. As I get more details, I'll pass it along.

I just wanted to get this posted so those of you who find this interesting can plan to go.

More details to follow..........

Here are the details that follow. Adjustments in the meeting time had to be made...sorry, but Larry don't get in until 8:30am. (My fault, I didn't get that important bit of info before I made up the times). We are still doing the run, but you'll just get to sleep in a little more.

Meet at the Petro/Iron Skillet at the Speedway exit 54 off I-15 at 9:15-9:30am

Depart as soon as Larry and his wife arrive hopefully by 10am heading north on I-15 to the UTE exit 80 and go right to the dirt from there.

Breakfast at 8:30am at the Iron Skillet if anyone is up for breakfast.

We will do the Bowl/Matterhorn Trail I'd rate at a 3 since there are go arounds for nearly all the obstacles.

Then head to Logandale and do the Shitter and/or Rock Bottom trails which rate 3.0+ to 3.5+. For these trails especially Rock Bottom if done, should have at least 33" tires and one locker. Shitter, like I said can be done with 32" tires and open diffs, but a higher chance of trail damage.

Well, here is an update. Larry IS shooting video for the MoabJeeper Magazine's website. He needs a minimum of 10 Jeeps and/or 4X4's to make a good video. He also wants to do a harder trail, so it looks like we will be doing the Bowl/Matterhorn trail or the harder trails in Logandale itself.

So, I know that leaves a lot of backroaders out. A slightly modded Jeep can get through the Bowl/Matterhorn by taking all the go arounds on the harder obstacles. And it isn't really that hard of a trail, for those who haven't been on it before. If we decide to do that one.

We may end up up Rock Bottom and Shitter. Still working on the details!!!

I might go if there are bypasses for the spots where rock sliders and/or short wheel base are needed. I assume it's a daytime run.

Yeah, it's a daytime run. There are a few obstacles that have to be taken and longer wheelbases may scrape (that's on the Bowl/Matterhorn). If Bowl/Matterhorn trail is being used, with the go arounds, I would rate this trail a 3+ 33" tires work well even with open front and rear diffs. I've had Cherokee's with 30" tires go through with minimal rock rash and minimal problems.

If we decide to do the Shitter or Rock Bottom trails, I would rate them at least a 4. 33" and at least a rear locker would be very helpful. Both have been done in a slightly lifted Jeep with 32" tires and open/open. A lot has to do with spotting and the driver, too.

I hope to have decided on the trail selection by Monday. So if anyone is still interested, keep watching this thread for more info and updates.

Joe you've caught my attention.
I'd love to get out and play. This sounds like a good time.
Especially if there are geocaches along the route.
Let me talk to the wife and make sure I have the day free.

You've definately got my attention. Count me in

I just finished a 1" body lift, 1" solid motor mounts, and moved my transfer case back up to the frame. It's time to see how well it works.

I know I can do the Bowl/Matterhorn. The Shitter and Rock Bottom are new to me.

I would love to go as well. Last year at Hump and Bump I did the Matterhorn is my stock jeep! Will be interesting this time a round with my lift and bigger tires. Weather permitting I should be able to make this run.

We would love to go but I have to take my daughters to the airport for an 8:30 flight back home.

I would imagine you are heading out pretty early.

Joe,,, I want to try this again !! I'm the 'Cherokee on 30's ' that made it before !! Now I'm on 31's and that waterfall was so cool !! It only removed a useless tranny skid plate (factory stock) that I didn't need anyway !! I hope that I can make it .... It's been a long time since I've been in the dirt... I need it !!! Phil

Rock Bottom is one of my favorites ! :) Shitter is ok but a little on the short side and not that difficult, but you could always make a loop and run Bronco falls too . I won't be able to make it due to upper control arms being snapped off , so I'm collecting parts for a build . Bigger and stronger, broken parts just mean upgrade time .
