I can clearly see the track in Topo USA. What I can't see is if this is still within the RR Conservation Area boundries. Anyone know? I always thought RRCA didn't pass beyond the 160.

Joe sent me the track,
I made a rout and loaded it into my GPS

Sorry guys, but I'm out. I couldn't get the fuel injectors to finish my jeep repairs today. I hope to catch another Sunday run.

Thanks Rick

You guys missed 1 fine ride about thats for sure.

any way Mike took a bunch of pictures so he shoudl have them posted up in webshots or somesuch in a day or two.

it took us about 3.5 hours to cover the 27 mile loop.

I missed one turn which resulted in a short on pavement drive of about .1 mile but we were soon back on the loop pictured above.

there is actually a finger of the red rock canyon national conservation area that is south of hwy160. it runs part-way down cottonwood valley and along the bird spring range of the spring mtns. as long as you stay on the marked approved trails you are safe. 8)

Thanks. After I posted the question, I saw the border of RR. I was suprised it went down that far. As we were going on the quads, I was concerned about the "NO OHV" rule but we passed 2 Metro and 1 Forest Service Ranger and they didn't bat an eye. Thanks again for the info!

Here is a map that shows the boundries:

I wanted to thank you guys for suggesting this area. We have been looking at this run for a long time but had never gone out here. What a fantastic place to ride! I hope you don't mind an ATV guy intruding here but we really appreciate the information and ideas. I wanted to share with you some of the pictures I took.

We started before you did I guess. We passed the gas station @8:30. I was keeping an eye out for you but all we saw was a Suzuki club looking like they were having a good time and some out of state guys just starting out as we were returning to loading area. The Samauri Warriors even invited us to join them for lunch but we had just finished and were heading down the mountain. Too bad, they looked like a fun group. We never saw you guys.

Here is a map I did after got back showing our route:

Image

Unloading and bundled up. We were down to shirt sleeves by the end of the ride
Image

Some Mountain Bikers passed us while we were stopped taking picutes.
Image

Taking a breather
Image

Darn Grafitti vandals! :D
Image

Very pretty box canyon. Hard to turn the quads around once we got to the end. I don't know how you 4x4 guys do it!

Waterin' Hole

Our lunch site

The Bat Cave! Seriously, this had a big sign stating this was a bat habitat. I would love to be around here at dusk when they head out for dinner
Image

This is the furthest east we got. Just into the Bird Spring Range.
Image

Almost back to the loading area

Thanks again for all the information. Again, I hope I'm not intruding here as I know this is a 4x4 site but I wanted to share our experience yesterday thanks to you.

Take care,
Rick

rick, thank you for shareing your trip. it's great to know we were able to show you an area you've been looking for. there are lots of designated trails out there and tons to see. and as you saw it is a premier mountain biking area with trails for dirt bikes, atv's and full size 4 wheelers. i particularly like to have lunch at bird spring and have shared it with a number of wild horses over the years. one of our club members actually worked as a cowboy out there running horses many moons ago. you are welcome here any time. 8)
