I am canceling this run due to possibility of snow. I am unable to start this run before 1230 so I'll have to hit this one up a different day. Sorry...Greg

*******************************

Thinking about doing this run on Sunday. I've never led a run before but this one looks like it would be fun to do. Thinking about meeting around 1230 at the entrance to Red Rock and rolling around 1245. I will try to get some passes into Red Rock so won't have to pay the $5 admission.

Greg

if you go all the way to Blue Diamond and on to Lovell Canyon Road..you wind up in the park anyway...for free. and closer to home.

but if you've never done it that way from the Pahrump side, the way in isn't necessarily obvious.

Yeah...you're right...it isn't really obvious from the Pahrump side. Plus, by leaving from Red Rock we should have enough time to make it out of there before dark.

be careful. that last storm left alot of snow on the lovell canyon side and the rock garden can get buried to the point of not being able to see the rocks and holes. even big rock crawler rigs have had to turn around when the white stuff gets too deep. 8)

If this one is un-do-able due to snow what trail would be easy to do this time of year?

Greg

I would love to do this run but 12.30 is running a bit late as it would probably be getting dark when you hit the technical part. Planning to do this run from the opposite direction (160 side) and will be at the chevron/mcdonalds on Blue diamond at about 9.30am if anyone is interested.

I typically go wheeling on the south end of town this time of year. tons of places to explore.

I can't tell you specifically, because it's not stuff most people have marked, but I like Cottonwood Valley quite a bit.

it'll take you to Goodsprings, and there are a number of Forest Service Roads out there tha can take you by some petroglyphs.

I'm not. merely a suggestion for a place to go exploring.

I usually try to stay in the lower elevations this time of year.

I ran Potato Ridge Friday (Jan 2nd). There was snow most of the way but it was do-able in a stock vehicle. There were a few "hairy" situations with the trail being covered in ice and leaning toward a 50+ft drop off. There were tracks in the washes, so some one gave it a try. I ran the trail solo and thought twice before dropping into the wash...

I actually had more fun on the Trout Canyon road. There was deep snow and some fun hills to climb...

Just my 2 cents,

Glen

No one showed at the gas station, so next time eh? Decided to do the run anyway. Loads of fun, plenty of snow, not really any major issues except a mild slide and line change climbing over the rock garden.

A neat little video my passenger made... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIct8-7bPZs

I ended up doing the run. Wasn't too bad. One hairy spot but I hit it on the edge where I could hit some dirt then with some speed I was able to climb up the snow/ice. Was a pretty good day in the dirt.
