A couple of us are going to do Mormon Well. We will be checking to see how clean/dirty our adopted trail is. Trail normally rates 1.5 at the most.

Meet @ the Corn Creek Rd. turnoff & Hwy. 95.
Meet time 8:30 am. Roll @ 9am.

RB,

The wife and I spent 4 days up at the campground last week.

The road from Corn Creek up was rather rough up to Peekaboo Canyon. From there to the campground, there are some rather severe ruts from people driving when it was still melting and had turned to mud (guilty)

The campground seems to be in good shape, (the group campground restroom needs a snake for the urinal, since it's been trying to overflow) :(

The road down from the campground to Hiway 93 is in relatively good shape, as always a bit rougher once you get past the Wildlife Refuge sign.

Finally, be aware of the step up onto the pavement at the connection to Hiway 93. It was an unexpected six inch or so step up while I was trying to get moving in front of the oncoming semi.

Overall, the trail is looking good, but could use a grading. Not too much trash (we packed out all we found at the campsite).

The actual Mormon Well is in poor condition. The hike in is overgrown at the top, causing us to have to break trail through weeds and brush. :( The corral is in relatively good condition, but there was no water in evidence in the area. Lots of broken plastic piping though. A couple of fire pits as well as an old can dump were the only real evidence of humans to be found.

Of course, Sawmill Canyon has been closed to vehicles, but we drove up to the gates anyway just so my GPS would have the locations of the gates marked.

It was a worthwhile week for us, only saw one car per day, and had a couple hike through camp one afternoon.

I'm sorry I won't be able to go at that time, I don't get off work till noon

Have a good ride, and keep us informed if there is anything that needs to be addressed the next time we get out of town.

Travis

How much time does it take to run this trail?

Depending on how many stops are made, it can be as short as half day or a full day. We are mainly going to check trail condition, so we can formulate on plan for when we start with the clean-ups. Everyone is welcome to come out. Somebody might be able to come up with a better plan than what has already been thought of.

Is that corn creek rd north of Las Vegas.

Also, I have front tow hooks on order but they aren't in yet. Do you think I'll need them for this trail or will I be able to make it without them?

Thanks,

Greg

Yes. 95 heading north out of Vegas. There shouldn't be any need for hooks on this trip. Normally cars can do this trail.

That is what happens when the misguided children get out of hand while playing.

Thanks to Bob, Justin and all that attended for a great day in the dirt. We picked up a LOT of bottles, cans and other trash on the first part of the trail. Wow - so many wildflowers. Awsome! Chris

Thanks Bob and Justin for guiding us through Mormon Wells today. It was an enjoyable run. Everyone was great an offered some good suggestions on how I should build my Jepe. The wifey is just wanting a little more blue skies and brown dirt runs though. I'll definitely go through that again this summer and try to go camping up there.

Thanks to all who came out. We are trying to formulate a plan for when we start our clean-ups.

For those that didn't come out, you missed all the flowers that were blooming in the burn area. It is an awesome sight watching that area regenerate after the fire.

Sorry I missed the run, couldn't get on the site Fri. night. Would have loved too see the flowers and get dirty. Got caught up
(mostly) on domestic chores and found out my new winch doesn't work.
