well it's that time of the year again and time for my annual "brad's birthday on bitter springs" trip. we'll meet at the moapa travel center off I15 at the valley of fire exit at 0830 and roll at 0900. it'll be an all day trip so bring lunch and it looks like it'll be warm so bring plenty of water. we'll hit all the usual spots and i hope to catch some good wildflower action so bring your camera. this trail rates a level 1.5 at the most. 8)

Valley of Fire exit, there is a big gas station.

if you go north out of town on I15 past the speedway you'll come to exit 75. this is the exit for the valley of fire state park and also, since you're on the reservation at that point, the moapa paiute tribal travel plaza. there's a big sinclair gas station with minimart and food and fireworks and stuff right off the interstate. from there we head east and turn off the blacktop before the valley of fire and the bitter springs trail runs 26 miles of dirt all the way to north shore drive and echo wash in the lake mead nra. i ment "usual spots" for someone that's run the trail before, for a newbie to the trail they'd all be "new spots". :D these include buffington pockets and the c.c.c. dam, the old color rock quarry, the nevada opal fields, the bitter springs narrows, the old american borax mine, jackrabbit rock, and of course the bitter springs itself. from the end of the trail most folks run back south on north shore drive which runs all the way back to boulder city with turn offs for las vegas and henderson. or you can run north shore drive north to overton then loagandale and get back on I15 at mile/exit 93 and run south back to vegas that way. should be back in town by 5 or 6 pm depending on how many stops for pictures and critters and stuff. always a chance to see burros or wild horses at the springs. 8)

It would of been nice if some of these spots could of been brought to light from one of the forty views I had on my planned run this past week. :? I definitely would of liked to explore the opal fields and the borax mine. All the other stuff I found and ironically enough the first thing I thought of when I saw the rock was a jack rabbit. Anyway, did the trail alone and good thing I did because the drunk in the pick up would of never made it out of there alive if he hadn't followed me out. he thought he was within a mile of I-15........he was 17 miles off and based on his tracks driving in circles. In fact he screwed me up once or twice and I've land navved all around the world without issue.

If they play like they did last night, you'd be best to go on the run.
