This photo gives me cold chills! When I was in high school there was a guy that I would hang out with. He bought himself an old military jeep and started fixing it up a bit. One day he dropped by the house to see if I wanted to take a ride in the old jeep. I jumped in and off we went, front window down and the wind in our faces. Now down in southern Arizona there are areas where the teddy bear cholla grows to 8 or 10 feet high, so they are big. As we are riding down a trail he decides to take off cross-desert. Next he decides to drive over one of those big cholla trees. You can probably see this coming, but he couldn't at the time. What he didn't realize is that we would drive THRU the cactus, not OVER the cactus. When it was done and over I had chunks of cholla stuck in my neck, chest and arm! Much to my chagrin, he made it through unscathed. Anyone familiar with cholla knows how painful it is to remove because the needles are barbed. Also because they are dirty, they often cause minor infection at the points of skin puncture. I looked like I had chicken pox for days!
At our 15 year class reunion we had a good laugh about the whole event, though he still felt bad about it. It's one of those memories that make life ineresting. I've been stuck and poked by about every type of cactus that grows in Arizona, but that was the worst with out a doubt!

I won't be able to make it. I'm up here in Minneapolis where the temperature has been rounded off to a nice even 0.
i've spent years exploreing coves using these maps and still haven't visited them all. and since these are approved trails as long as you stay on trail you can't be fined for being out of bounds which can be a rather stiff fine. $$$$ 
and most of the trails i've run rate a level 1.5 to level 2 at the most.
