I just saw the weather forecast - SNOW
Up to 2 feet in the mountains - starting Thursday night, ending Saturday night.
This could be good...

Have fun, and keep all 4 wheels down. I have good pictures of someone that did not.

That is a lot of snow. I hope everybody will be carrying a large snow shovel and tire chains for all four wheels, just in case...

I haven't decided if I will go on this run.

We're making on-call plans for the weekend for snow plowing starting Thursday night through Monday. 70-80% chance of precipitation Friday night though Sunday morning. So since they are generally half right about the weather around here, you guys stand a good chance of snow.

 I do not have chains.
But I'm going with a smart crew that will turn around if it looks like a bunch of us will get hopelessly stuck. 8)

With tire chains things like these are much less likely to happen.

I grew up in Wyoming and I would chain up if I had to go out on my own in a blizzerd, or icy conditions.
However when we were playing in the snow with a group of trucks we rarely chained up, just kept the straps handy and would just let one run through the obstacle (drift maybe) at a time if he got stuck we would strap him and pull him out.
It is amazing how far you can get by pushing a truck through the snow and pulling it back out and hitting again until you plow a path through.
I miss playing in the snow.

While chains may provide better traction they are not that useful when they can’t reach something solid like when you are high centered in the snow.
We mainly used them for icy conditions.

I have been stuck by myself in the snow, a good hi-lift and some wood will go a long way, and usually less physical work than digging.
When I lived there I used to carry 2ft x 3ft 3/4in pieces of plywood as part of my anti stuck kit.

Speaking of icy conditions, here is a recent post from a Toyota forum I belong to. He is talking about Wheeler Pass.

"On Sunday I had to chain up to get to the summit from cold creek. ICE, ICE..."

Chains won't help anyone that's not smart enough to realize the snow is too deep for their vehicle.

So is the plan to go in from 93 and then backtrack out to 93? Why not go all the way through to 95?

Just wondering- I will wait 4 everyone at the Apex exit (approx 8am). Never been so have no clue where the turnoff is from 93 side.

See everyone Sat. and assuming channel 4

Do you think 2 feet of snow would be too deep for our vehicles?

Ok, seriously, I realize this run is meant to have fun in the snow, and getting stuck in snow just means you are having extra fun. Not only that, but 4x4s stuck in the snow provide great opportunities for taking videos!!!

Nevertheless, if I go on this run I will bring the tire chains I bought for the land cruiser 10 years ago. They have sat unused on a shelf since I bought them because I have been avoiding snow driving for the last 10 years. I guess the few near death experiences I had while living in the snowy/icy Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia made me a little snow shy. Back then I was driving a 4x4 jeep cherokee with off-road tires and didn't think tire chains were worth the money.
