We would like to take a run Tuesday out to Grapevine Spring, which is between Hwy 95 and State Route 157. We will meet at the Palute Indian gas station North of town on hy 95 at 9:00 am and roll at 9:30. Hope to see you there. Rex :)

Not sure if you saw my thread or not, but:

There's really nothing to see past Grapevine, though the road goes for another 2 miles or so. Unless you're just wanting to drive around.

While I trust Gary, I have to go out and see for myself.
Just stubborn, I guess.
I'll be there

The drive to Grapevine is neat, as is the spring itself. I just thought I'd warn anyone getting excited about much past it. I took some pics while there, I'm trying to get them loaded up tonight.

I forget the exact dates, but most of the springs up there had work done on them originally by the CCC around the mid 1930's. There's still evidence of their presence around many of the springs, including Grapevine.

Gary: We just rain Grapevine Springs all the way thru from one end to the other today , and eventhough we had some rough spots we got all the way thru fine. A stock Jeep would have a problem. Rex :)

Great run Rex, very interesting. I never saw the 4 ft drop Gary was talking about, but I did scrape the bumper and the skid plates a few times. That's what they're for!
Interesting also was the thirty year old woman (Linda?) in the 2004 TJ that was out there camping with a flat spare AND a flat right front. Probably lucky for her we came along.
Thanks again!

great tuesday run.
hope to make this a regular event for weekday runs.
the lady camper on the plateau was lucky allen had his air compressor. the knife slit in her spares side wall and the front right tire was DOA.
wasn't gonna take her very far on that trail.
some folks seem to rely on karma and luck.
niether would have gotten her very far that day.
maybe the camping out was really stranded w/o a spare.
good lesson to take the usual tools and supplies even on a short fun run.
never know who may need a hand getting back into town.
ran that trail many moons ago before i had my own jeep going geocaching with tom.
now i get to drive.
it was a lot of fun and my bumper and armour paid for it self again.

You went from Grapevine Spring to Grassy Spring and the Lucky Strike mine road, like in the book?

In other words, you went in, and came out another way.

Gary,
We went in on Lucky Strike Mine Road, opposite Mormon Well Road on Hiway 95. We ended just East of Harris Springs Road on 157. Like I said, It was a little rough just past Grassy Springs, just south of Shoemaker Springs, but we got through with just a few scrapes on the skids and bumpers. The rest of the ride through Good Water Canyon and Grapevine Canyon was no problem at all. We had lunch on a rise about 2 miles from tha highway, and had a great ride the rest of the way.

Cool. I went in from Kyle Canyon, running an old GPS track from exploring up there before. I know that route is no longer doable. But I didn't have enough time last week to explore any other roads up there, so I wasn't aware of any other options. With out knowing the coordinates of the route Mitchell mentions, it's hard to say if he wasn't using the same one as me, since his directions come pretty close to matching the route I was using.

But it wasn't for nothing I guess, since you guys feel sections of the trail were rough, it's still might not be "club run" friendly. I'll have to get one of you guys to go up there with me sometime or get the track file from one of you.

I'd love to take you out there. It's a good time and an interesting run.

Gary. We did it just like the book, only we did it backwards from the way Mitchell did it. Rex
