Well, I know I didn't post this, but it was sort of the last minute. A small group of us went up to the Ute exit and ran the Matterhorn. Everyone made it through just fine. Al and I even did the S-turn without any body damage, thanks to Paul spotting us through.
We made it to the waterfalls leading into the Bowl Trail. I really wanted to give it a try since it's been a long time since I've done it. My second attempt was a good to go. I made it up and parked my Jeep. I headed back to the waterfall and Al was making his way up. Surprisingly enough Al made it up. He's open/open, too. Up next for Al was the triple waterfall. After a few failed attempts, I thought I heard a snap, but it wasn't very loud. Al was trying to go, but only the rear tires were spinning. I looked under and there was his front driveshaft, just twisted in two. Yes, we all got pictures.
Sheila and Andy pulled their winch line out and gave him a pull up the rest of the waterfall. While a group got the driveshaft off, Sheila, Eric, and I went and did the Bowl trail loop. By the time we got back, the driveshaft was off and we moved on. I think Al only had a couple places that were difficult without having 4WD, but we made it through.
We played in the rocks near the Matterhorn. Remembering the time we spent earlier in the month in Moab. We missed the rocks. LOL After playing a while, and by this time it was really getting quite hot out, Paul suggested we head to Glendale for a cold Malt drink. We all agreed and we moved on down the trail.
We all aired up at the gas station, then went over for some Malts. Fun was had by all and even though Al had some carnage, he still had a good time. I think!!! Eric, a friend from work, redeemed himself from being "Mall Rated" by going and testing his new lift on his XJ. He did good, but realized some weaknesses that he needs to work on in the near future like front sway bar disconnects.
Here are the pictures that I took, except for the ones of me, Al took them. Thanks Al for taking those shots, and thanks Paul for spotting us when we needed it. Thanks to Andy and Sheila, Eric and Preston, Al and Matt, Kasey and Spencer, and Paul and Paula for making this a really fun day.
