I decided that I would buy a new GPS unit when they had the capability to use Google-Earth-style maps as well as topo maps. And, now there's one that does! It's the Earthmate PN-60, made by DeLorme. They're the atlas people. I got mine last month, and it's very cool. So, now, the Explorist needs to find a home. I'll take the best offer on it. Here's what I've got:

Magellan Explorist 600
Mapsend Topo 3D Version 1.00, from 2004-2005
Extra battery pack
Carrying case that hooks to a belt or backpack
Car plug-in

I've had this unit for several years. The only problem is that the unit came out at the same time as the software, and even though the software says that it works with the unit, that's not exactly true. I had to call customer support, and they had to walk me through some curious, incomprehensible steps, to get maps loaded from the computer into the thing. I don't know if it's possible to go backward, and download routes and such back onto your computer and use them in the software - I never tried. Once the maps were in the unit, however, it worked fine.
