I got a 297 page bound color book from BLM & NPS today that contains the management proposals for several wilderness areas in the Lake Mead NRA. These areas are as follows: Jimbilnan, Pinto Valley, Black Canyon, Eldorado, Ireteba Peaks, Nellis Wash, Sprit Mtn, and Bridge Canyon Wilderness Areas.

The period for written public comments ends may 14, 2010 but there are 3 up-coming public meetings regarding these proposals. The meetings are as follows:
Tuesday, April 20th @ Laughlin Public Library, 1530 to 1830
Wednesday, April 21st @ Lake Mead HDQ, 1600 to 1900
Thursday, April 22nd @ Downtown Henderson Rec Cntr 1600 to 1900

If you want to go thru the Book let me know and we'll work out a way to get it to you. I'm going to skim it over the next couple days and see what if anything it does to the Approved Back Country trails in the NRA

There is also a way to submit comments via the internet by going to the following link:

Brad, let me borrow it when you've had enough. I'm sure I will have a comment or two for them. I usually do, I work on the days of the meetings, but I might try to get one of them off. Otherwise it's thru e-mail.
Thanks

OK, after skimming thru the Wilderness Management Proposal I got here's what does or doesn't affect us as 4wd users of these areas. Most of the Approved Roads(ARs) remain open, a good thing, with a few closures I don't think really matter to us. So I'm going to list whats up in each of WMAs.

Jimbilnan & Pinto Valley WMAs: Echo Wash Road, AR102, remains open and is the northern boundry for the Jimbilnan WMA. Boathouse Road,AR97, is cherry stemed and remains open. :D It is actually the boundry betwen the 2 WMAs. Bitter Springs is unaffected by any of this as it lays north and west of these WMA boundrys. :D

Black Canyon & Eldorado WMAs: AR59, AR58 & AR58a are all open until ending in hiking trailheads, these are in the Boy Scout Canyon area. Burro Wash remains open :D and is the boundry road between the 2 WMAs. Yucca Camp Road, AR51, is open until the hiking trailhead which is the way Scuba Steve showed it to me and I've done it since so no change there. Some trials north of SR165 and Nelson remain open as they are south of the Eldorado WMA but watch for boundry markers as you head north of 165.

Ireteba Peaks WMA: Aztec Wash/Knob Hill Road aka Electic Avenue, AR42, remains open :D and is the northern boundry of this WMA. Rockefeller Road, AR32, & Opal Mtn Road, AR33, are the souther boundry and remain open also.

Nellis Wash, Sprit Mtn & Bridge Canyon WMAs: Empire Wash Road, AR22, is cherry stemed and remains open :D . However the last section of White Rock Road, AR 21, will be closed to motor vehicles. Last time I was down there this section was pretty much washed away and of little interest so I call it No Big Deal. Christmas Tree Pass Road, AR20,will be cherry stemed and remain open :D along with the parking for Pipe Springs Road & Sacatone Wash. The parking for Grapevine Canyon reamains unchanged also. Lower Grapevine Road, AR13, will be closed where it comes off of AR9 but again last time I was there the road as trash anyway. Upper Bridge Mtn Road, AR18, where it starts running north off of SR163 will remain open only to the NRA boundry. It's being closed due to quads & dirtbikes using it to illeagly access the WMA. I've not been up there in years so I cann't say what the road conditon is but any vehicles in Park Service managed areas are supposed to be street legal so this is in my view just a few knuckleheads ruining this for the rest of us.

That's what I get out of all 297 pages and now I'm going to go take some advil for this headache and let me eyes rest. 8)

Thanks Brad,
Sounds like almost a non-issue for us. FOR ONCE! I like that!
