BLUERIBBON COALITION ACTION ALERT!
Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber,

Attention Nevada Recreationists!

Located in western Nevada, the Ely Ranger District of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest has released an Environmental Assessment (EA) for their Travel Management Project for public review and comment. The Notice of Proposed Action (NOPA) was published (legal notice) in the Ely Times on August 20, 2008.

A preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA), and associated maps, that describes the Proposed Action and the effects of the Proposed Action and alternatives in detail is available for review on the Humboldt-Toiyabe website at: http://www.fs.fed.us/r4/htnf/projects/#ely. In the EA, the Ely Ranger District proposes to adjust the current forest transportation system on the Ely Ranger District by adding user-created routes as National Forest System (NFS) roads and NFS trails and to prohibit motor vehicle use off of designated NFS roads and NFS trails.

The Forest Service encourages your comments on this proposed action, along with supporting reasons, for consideration by the responsible official in reaching a decision. Your comments will be used to help complete the environmental analysis and make a decision on the proposed action and any alternatives.

To maintain eligibility for appeal, each individual or organization (including specification of an authorized representative) must submit comments and must sign the comments or otherwise verify their identity.

Send written or facsimile comments to Ely District Ranger, 825 Avenue E, Ely, NY 89301; phone (775) 289-3031; FAX (775) 289-2132; or you may hand-deliver your comments to the above address during normal business hours from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays. Email comments may by sent to comments-intermtn-humboldt-toiyabe-ely@fs.fed.us. Oral comments must be provided at the Responsible Official's office during normal business hours. The opportunity to comment ends September 19, 2008.

Comments received in response to this solicitation, including names and addresses of those who comment, will be considered part of the public record for this project and will be available for public inspection and will be released if requested under the Freedom of Information Act.

Additional information on the proposed action may be obtained by contacting James Winfrey, Ely Ranger District Travel Management Project Manger, 2035 Last chance Road, Elko, NY 89801; phone (775) 738-5171; FAX (775) 778-6199.

JUST REMEMBER, PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT IS CRUCIAL TO KEEP RECREATION AREAS OPEN, PLEASE GET INVOLVED!

Thanks in advance for your support,
Ric Foster
