US forest service is looking for cooperation among 4x4 and out door enthusiasts to help visually inspect weather scan and snow tell stations for damage and vandalism. these stations are located in SMNRA and Sheep Mountain Range areas.
the following was received from the USFS through
www.getoutdoorsnevada.org website's volunteer muster
"Weather Station Volunteers Needed
The Forest Service is looking for volunteers to help with weather stations located in Lovell Canyon and on the west side of the mountain near Wheeler Wash. The weather stations were recently constructed and are highly technical pieces of equipment that need to be checked at least twice per month in the summer and about once a month in the winter, maybe less. The work would basically involve the volunteer driving to the site over 4x4 roads, looking at the fencing and/or equipment at each site, and reporting back to the Forest Service on damage or any other out of the ordinary occurrences. Eventually additional work may include repairs and working with the data from the sites.
Interested volunteers should contact Jim Hurja with the US Forest Service
at 702-839-5568."
