MARY FROM LLR STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM WANTS EVERYONE TO KNOW THIS WILL BE THE LAST ONE FOR A WHILE SO SIGN UP !!

The Little Red Rock Site Stewardship Program is a partnership among the Howard Hughes Corporation, Nevada Rock Art Foundation, and Nevada State Office of Historic Preservation. Little Red Rock encompasses five cultural sites (primarily petroglyphs and pictographs) determined eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Vandalism and looting have impacted this area. The purpose of the Site Stewardship Program is to have volunteers, such as you, monitor the sites for natural disturbances and evidence of vandalism or looting, and report on these conditions so appropriate action can be taken to protect and preserve the sites.

To become a LRR Site Steward, you must attend a training class to learn about the stewardship program. The training class will cover basic archaeology and rock art information, the reasons for having a stewardship program, monitoring and reporting procedures, and desert safety tips. Sali Underwood with the Nevada State Historic Preservation Office and Gus Quinlan with the Nevada Rock Art Foundation will be instructors. After the training class you will be provided specific baseline information and taken on a field visit to see the sites before you can begin to monitor your assigned site.

Stewards must monitor with a partner(s) and it is highly recommended you have at least a high-clearance vehicle or 4-wheel drive. We do our best to team up stewards with similar abilities and match those having a 4x4 vehicle with those that do not, or encourage you to bring a friend/partner to the class with you.

The next scheduled training class is:
Date: Saturday, December 1st

Location: Trails Community Center in Summerlin, 1910 Spring Gate Lane (north of Summerlin Parkway from Town Center, northwest “cornerâ€￾ of Village Center traffic circle)

Time: 9:00 a.m. and concluding before 3:00 p.m. (lunch will be provided)

The next scheduled field visit is:
Date: Sunday, December 2nd
Location: Best Buy (southeast corner of parking lot) at Charleston and 215
Time: 8:30 a.m. and concluding around noon (bring your own water and snacks)

It is great to know that so many people have a desire to learn and to help protect a small, yet important piece of our local history and culture. The response for volunteers has been great and thus your patience in getting trained is sincerely appreciated. Please reply to Mary at 702-285-3784, if you will attend the training class so enough training books and lunches are ordered, and if you will participate in the field visit and have a 4x4 or high clearance vehicle.

If these dates do not fit your schedule and you’re still interested in the stewardship program, please Mary know that also as future training classes and field visits will be scheduled as needed.

Hey Justin, have Bob direct you to Mack with VV. He and I were doing Logandale through this program administered by UNLV. The mans name is George. Mack will probably still have his contact number. Same thing as Little RedRock but through the Feds.

Steve

It is a great program. Coral and I are going to take the class up here in White Pine Co. Phil had taken the class last year. He takes care of Hamiliton and Treasure City. The White Pine 4x4 club is going to take the class as a club. This way we can work it as a group.

Called yesterday to enroll, sounds like I got the last seat for this class :D

Now if I can just figure out how to navigate Summerlin's circles  I'll be there. She should have just given us GPS coords :P

Who all is going? Let's meet up there for coffee before class.
