the story in Las Vegas Review Journal today...

WOW...

http://www.lvrj.com/news/8921477.html

ALL 4x4 owners...take notice
we need to stick together and fight this type of abuse.
permit fee from $90 to $5000 is outrageous!!

I got this from Mac on Sincity.

I think this is their new way to keep us as a group off the trails.

Todd

Another reason why I'm glad I'm getting out of here. The LV BLM office is nothing but a bunch of greedy neocon tree huggers. They should really just annex Clark County back to Arizona or even California.

If they want $5,500 for 30 vehicles and four days on four trails, I wonder what they'll rape VV4W for Hump 'n Bump?

IIRC, the permit for my run in LC was something like $210 for 30 vehicles and one trail, one day. I'm not sure what the total cost was for all the runs (ATV's Horses, Hiking) but I can be definitely sure it wasn't this staggering. And we didn't have any BLM wardens anywhere policing us. In fact the Ely BLM was quite helpful in setting the days events up.

Now I understand why SNORE is so happy to race anywhere but Clark County.

There are no trees to hug in the desert  Maybe they are hugging something else or someone else

They're understaffed and thats our fault?
They are unable to enforce against the worst abusers so they just stick it to the most responsible users. We are the easy targets. So events get cancelled but the abusive bastards still go out and do damage and then the area gets closed.

What if the Nevada OHV orgs sponsored a bill that would require the registration of all OHV's. All motorized OHV's would be required to get a plate and attend an impact education class. All licensed 4 wheel drives would require an Impact sticker and attend the same class regardless of intent to offroad. This would fund and facilitate enforcement by making all users accountable and identifiable. I would gladly pay $25-35/ year if I knew the ATV users and others were educated and held acountable. The funding would be for Education and Enforcement of public lands and a hotline for reporting abuse. The program could be facilitated by the DMV and BLM. Obviously there would need to be exemptions for ranchers or others that require access for livelyhood. Also out of state users could get a temp permit just like for fishing or hunting. The sportsmen have to do it therefore why not the OHV's.
It may be another tax but it's better than closing lands just because the BLM/state just can't manage their duties.

ok I'm done. Time to go join these groups I guess.
Wish I could go to some of these meetings, but I work the hours they put up.

Justin

Here in Cali, we have green and red stickers for vehicles that are off-road only.
There is also gas tax money that comes from those that off-road. They have a figure that they figure is a percentage, and that also goes into this fund for paying for state parks, and ohv grants to the different agencies.
It is just red tape to get the paperwork filed, and then to get the grant approved.
These grants have to be used for ohv trails and areas.

It started out as a good program, but now it is all bottlenecked, as part of AB 742. The Ca congress is trying to add different riders to it, and trying to change the whole bill. It is almost to the point that Cal4 and the other ohv org's here are not going to support it.
So, there is a program out there that can be copied if needed. It just needs some good people to manage it, and hand out the money.
