NEVADA CALL TO ACTION:

IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO ALL NEVADA OHV ENTHUSIASTS:

According to the best data available, Nevada is home to over 360,000 OHV enthusiasts. Sadly, very few are actively involved in protecting their recreational access.

Conversely, anti-recreation groups in Nevada are fielding a strong anti-OHV effort that is increasingly effective.

Indeed, OHV users watched from the sidelines as anti-recreation forces succeeded in killing a good route designation process in White Pine County. Lack of involvement also resulted in legislation that established massive new Wilderness in this area and closed hundreds of miles of roads. Unlike similar bills in other parts of the state, this bill contained no congressionally established OHV trails.

The good news is that many recreationists in Nevada recognize that apathy is a critical problem. Efforts are currently underway to organize a statewide OHV alliance. Communication among the various groups is improving. Local groups are getting involved and becoming much more active in the management of their trails.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

I want to ask each and every Nevada Action Alert subscriber to resolve to step up your efforts to help defend recreational access.

There are two simple things you can do today:
1) Below is a Action Alert regarding a good OHV plan in Lander County. Please follow the simple directions and send an email in support of this worthy project.
2) Forward this Action Alert to friends and family. We promise to keep you updated on Nevada land use issues.

We are going to raise Nevada issues to a priority status. We are optimistic that increased involvement by individual Nevada recreationists will make our efforts in Nevada worthwhile.

Also, please consider joining a Nevada-based OHV organization. There are many good groups that are worthy of your support. Membership is the lifeblood of OHV clubs. Your membership will make a difference!

COMMENTS NEEDED IN SUPPORT OF GOOD OHV PROJECT

SITUATION:
The Bureau of Land Management's Battle Mountain Field Office is proposing to implement an OHV management project in the Shoshone Mountain Range just south of Battle Mountain, Nevada.

Working with the Northern Nevada All-Terrain Vehicle Association, the BLM has put together a proposal that provides OHV opportunities as well as protecting resources. This is the kind of project we like to see.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
Use the info below to send a quick email in support of this project. If you recreate in the area please consider making route-specific comments.

Send your email to:
Thomas Seley Thomas_seley@blm.gov
Put "We support the Shoshone Range OHV Plan" in the subject line.

Send "snail mail" to:
Bureau of Land Management
Attn: Thomas Seley
Battlement Mountain Field Office
50 Bastian Rd.
Battle Mountain, NV 89820

We recommend you send the BLM a sentence or two telling them how much your family enjoys OHV recreation.

Tell the BLM that you support the Shoshone Range OHV Management Program. Ask him to continue to work with groups like the Northern Nevada ATV Association.

Be sure to include your name and address. "Anonymous" emails are often discarded.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

From Todd Ockert

Also, when you send in your letter, include the groups that you belong to for a couple of reasons.

1. If a group needs to file a lawsuit, they can do it on your behalf since you mentioned them. For Nevada, that would include BRC and United.

2. It lets the management agency see that you do belong to a group, and that they group does care about what they are doing.

Todd
