Check out the article in the Las Vegas Review Journal on 3/22/07, regarding the closure of the sand dunes in Sand Mountain Recreation Area due to the rare blue butterfly. This is in N Las Vegas.

This may affect some of you offroaders who use atv's, motorcycles and other off road vehicles in that Park.

If I recall, Sand Mtn. is about 70 miles outside of Reno.

That is what the article says, 75 mi west of Reno. The headline mentions Northern Nevada Dunes. It also say up to 200 miles (that most likely translates most) of the trails were closed but not the dunes itself. :shock:
