The dates some of us have been waiting for have been announced. The weekend of 1/20-21, the Freelanders are going to play in Calico. The Freelanders (my brothers group) have invited the Backroaders to come out and play with them. Some of you know of our campfire games, this is the club that Geno and I learned the games from. So, a good time will be had by all.

Saturday's run will be Doran & Odessa Canyons. Sunday will be a free day. There might be some mine exploration or you can check out the town of Calico.

Doran & Odessa are rated 3.5+. There are certain requirements for this run. You can see pictures on my website.
1. Lift is REQUIRED
2. Armor is REQUIRED
3. Lockers are NOT required but recommended
There is a very real possibility of body damage and/or breakage.
This trail ia NOT long-wheelbase or full-size friendly.

NOTE: I have told some people that their Jeeps are not able to do this trail. I will do that again this time.

Depending on whose going, there may be an open seat or two for somebody that might want to ride shotgun.

There is camping available in Calico. http://www.calicotown.com/
There are also hotel rooms in Yermo and Barstow.

If interested or have questions, please e-mail or call me 453-2358 (early evenings).

Just to let those who are interested know, All the cabins at Calico have been taken. After talking to my brother, there should be a good turn out for the run.

For those that do not mind camping, there is plenty of open camping space near the trail head.
We have towed our camper in there before with no problems.
You could even get a motorhome up there if so desired.

We debated coming over for this, but saving a few pennies to go to Reno in Feb for the Cal4Wheel convention.
We will wait for the pictures.

I have been a copilot on that run. If you can go, GO. Lizzy is not going this year either (can't afford any breakage at the moment). But it's worth the trip. That is one awesome trail. Tell the Freelanders hi for me.

Calico is about 150 south of Vegas, just before Barstow. Plenty of signage pointing the way as you come into Yermo. You'll be exiting I-15 soon after passing that California Inspection Station slowdown point (watch for Ghost Town Road), or you can head a little further south and take the 'main' exit, there's food and fuel available there.

Anybody else going to Calico??? I'm going. Geno is going. I heard Paul S. and maybe Tom S. are going. Did JC & Mary make their reservations yet??? Anyone else? Instead of our usual potluck meals, we will probably be eating at Peggy Sue's Diner in Yermo.

At the moment, Gene and Coral are headed for warm weather in Texas.
We just got an email from them.
But they are stuck in the snow somewhere between Vegas and Texas though. It could be warm in Vegas by the time they get out of the snow though.

So I am not sure if they will be back prior to this run Bob.

I know you have their phone number, and can give them a call if needed.
Otherwise post here. They do have internet along the way with their new wireless card in the laptop.

We made it Texas, but ran into a snow storm. I10 is closed from Sonora both ways. Hope it will be open tomarrow. It seems to be warming up to 34 degrees. Plan on moving tomarrow. Should only have rain not freezine rain. Found a small motel that has rv hook ups.
Will not be back in Vegas till the end of Jan. or the 1st of Feb.
