I am going out to Panimint Valley April 7-9 (Friday - Sunday) with the Freelanders (my brothers club). The runs that are planned for now include Pleasant Canyon/Southpark, Goler Wash/Manson Cabin and a run on the Jackpot Mine trail which was recently found. From what I have found out, the runs should be no more than a 3 rating, maybe a 3 1/2 for Goler wash. We will be camping in Ballarat. Panimint Springs is nearby, with a motel and rv park.

If anybody is interested in going, you are more than welcome to join us. Any questions :? , give me a call. 453-2358 after 6p.m. 8)

I would say Goler wash was "maybe" pushing a rating of 3. It has been recently graded up to the Mansion cabin. Then it has a section up to Mengal pass that is a bit more difficult. I would say 31"s and a 2" lift would have no problem at all.
I would love to go but I already have plans that weekend. Very cool trails though.

We will be there with both jeeps.

I think we may have a hard time getting our Rubi home after mom see's it though.
She may tie it behind their motorhome and hi-jack it. She loves them after she rode in Rubicon Bob's.

See you all there.

Coral and I will be there also. We will leave Thursday afternoon. Todds rubi rides nice. We had a chance to get some mud on it. They had snow here this weekend in Coalinga. They did some volunteer work for a motorcycle race. We helped out also since we had to get our computor fixed. Good wheeling in the snow and mud.

Do you have any gps coordinates for approximatly where we will be camping?

We are going to leave our camper here, and stay in Mom & Dad's motorhome.
It will save us the time of having to tow it over, and save us some gas also.

I have seen Ballarat on my gps software maps! Is that the planned camping spot, or in that vacinity?

Thanks

See you there.

As far as I know right now, we will be camping at Ballarat. If you remember when we were at PVD, Ballarat is right on the main road from where we were camped. I know you have taken the gravel road from Camp back to the highway to Trona. Not sure if you took the gravel road the other direction towards Panamint Springs. Where the gravel road hits the highway, Ballarat is on the highway going back towards Trona. Almost directly across from where we camped for PVD. I hope this makes as clear as mud. When I get some time, maybe I can track down the GPS for Ballarat.

Thanks. That will put in in the area.
We will most likely come over on Friday. I think my dad is going to try and get there on Thursday. He doe have to work some on thursday though, so not sure if they will make it all the way there.

So, we are going to leave on Friday morning. If we know that he will be there on Thursday, we may change our minds on Thursday though. We will have to see.

I think I have a good idea of where it is though.

Thanks

Ballarat is located approx. N36°02.873', W117°13.449'.

Coming in from Trona, take Trona Wilderness Road, Turn right on Ballarat Road for about 3.3mi.

I will be coming in from Furnace Creek on Hwy 190. Turn left on Panamint Valley Road, turn right on Trona Wilderness and the left on Ballarat Road.

Here is a modified flyer from the Freelanders.

PANAMINT RUN

APRIL 7, 8, & 9th

(Friday, Saturday, & Sunday)

Come on out with the Freelanders and enjoy exploring the historic Panamint Mts. The area is full of mines, camps, some famous and infamous characters. The runs will be open to all vehicles, although Goler Wash may not be good for long wheelbase trucks (without a lift). I'm sure we will be able to find some play areas that will challenge everyone.

For those that can make it out on Thursday night, we will start on Friday morning with a run up Pleasant Canyon, through Middle Park and out South Park..

On Saturday, we will be in search of Goler Wash and Barker Ranch. This was the hideout of Charlie Manson and his gang.

Since this is a camping trip, we will of course be celebrating with a pot-luck dinner on Saturday night. The main dish will be provided by the Freelanders. And what could be better than story time around a campfire in a ghost town. So don't forget to bring your firewood and ghost stories.

We will set up camp in Ballarat Ghost Town. There is a small Fee for camping, but not much else there. Easy access for motor homes or trailers, tents OK too. This is DRY camping. There are NO hookups for electric or water. Make sure you bring ANYTHING you might need. There is a motel and an rv park located in Panamint Springs that has electric and water.

Directions: From 1-15 take 395 north. After Red Mountain, look for the Trona Rd cutoff. This will lead to the 178, turn right towards Trona.
Trona will be the last chance for gas, so you might want to top off.
Continue north over the pass into the valley. There will be a monument on the right side of the road at Ballarat Rd. Turn right and follow about 2 miles, camp is on the left.

From the 14, take the 178 through Ridgecrest to Trona.

If coming in from 95 (Nevada): Take Hwy 373 towards Amargosa. When crossing into California, this road becomes Hwy 127. Continue on till you get to Hwy 190 (Death Valley Junction). Turn West towards Furnace Creek. Stay on 190 until you get to Panamint Valley Rd. aprox. 82 miles. Turn South (left), go to Trona Rd. Turn to the right and follow to Ballarat Rd. Once at Ballarat Rd, turn left to get to the camp.

Please NOTE: Panamint Springs is the LAST chance for gas (very high prices and credit card use only.)
Hope to see everyone out there. Feel free to contact me for anymore information or questions.

I need to know by Friday 3/31 if you will be going and how many. I need to let the Freelanders know, so they can plan for the dinner on Saturday night.

453-2358 after 6pm. 8)

Dont forget your insect repellent, last month I was out in Ballarat and there was some water in the "dry" lake/ marsh area and the bugs were driving us insane! :?

It was fine up in south/ middle park though.

We are going to have to bow out.
Teresa has a doctors appt that we have been trying to get for two months.
I will have to work till about 5:00pm. So, it would be late when we would get there, get one run in, and then come home on Sunday.

We are looking at coming over towards Vegas in June.
