Saturday, Sept. 26 will be the annual Lincoln County Trails Day event. It will take place in Caliente, NV this year. Events include a 4x4 run, hiking trails and ATV trail rides.

More info can be found here: http://lincolncountynevada.mhsoftware.c ... 1087830373

As the link says, the runs are free to attend, the only cost being for the dinner and t-shirts.

You can email them for pre-registration info, or I can send a registration to anyone interested, just PM your address. You'll be able to register day of the event, just t-shirts and dinners may not be guaranteed.

I'll be leading the 4x4 run. We'll be leaving the Caliente Depot and heading west toward Delamar and Helene, stopping off at both of their cemeteries and finishing off by stopping at the Oak Summit Trilobite Site.

One serious note to mention. Unfortunately, The Best in the Desert will be having an offroad race that weekend in Alamo, and it encircles Caliente. One reason as to why my run will be semi-short as I have a limited area due to their course, but the major issue will be they will be likely using Caliente as a source for motel rooms. Also scheduled that week is the 100th anniversary for the Lincoln County High School. So there will be numerous past alumni attending, again taking up the already shortage of motel rooms.

Anyone attending will have to reserve ASAP if any rooms are available. Note, all numbers are area code 775 unless noted:

Some pics:

The above graveyard is the original Delamar one, and is usually missed. Sometimes referred to as the old one.

These pics are from one of our old runs:

The graveyard in these is the Helene cemetery, which was later taken over by Delamar. Referred to as the new one.

I know the year I went, I had a great time. A lot of awesome trails to explore in that region. Unfortunately, I will be in Paris, France that day. Going to see Jimmy Buffett in concert before returning home from a European vacation...LOL Hopefully it won't be a National Lampoon style one.

Gary, I have a crew of folks coming from Vegas.

A question. We will probably be camping in Caliente. Normally, to do the Delamar trail area I would trailer to the turn-off from the highway and unload there. Is that the way that you are going? Would we be leaving the trail at that same spot? Is that turn-off going to be full of racers? (Sorry for so many questions :D ) Or I could just leave 1/2 hour early and drive the Jeep to the trail head. (It's kinda scary 8) )

Thanks for any info you can give..

According to the BLM, the BiTD racers and their crew will not be an issue, though we might run into some support/official crews. But that shouldn't be an issue either.

The trail I'm using starts about 2 miles East of the signed Delamar road, but we will be coming out at that signed road to get back to US93. At the signed road, there is room for a few trucks and trailers as long as BiTD isn't using it. But there is also a NDOT gravel pit between the two trails off US93 that has quite a bit of room on the access road. So if you trailered out there, you could get back to it.

The only issue is I'm trying to work out a start time, and I was planning on hitting the Oak Springs Trilobite site as well. I just don't know if I'll hit the site first or last as the motorcycles are going there as well, and I don't want to overlap with them. Hopefully I can have a start time next week so I can figure out the when to hit the trilobite site. Right now I hope for it to be around 8-9 AM. So you could likely check in then, then head out early if needed. BTW the site is less than a mile from where the trail starts off US93.

Also, the trail is easy enough that I'm doing it in my crew cab. There's just one section that you have to have 4x or a 2X with a crawler gear or you likely wouldn't make it. And the last thing I wanted was some cross over coming out and getting stuck  So we listed it as sounding tougher than it is.

Liz and I went last year in Pioche and we really had a great time. I think we'll try to make it an annual event for us. We really enjoyed the trail and the history of it all.

Are they going to have a raffle like they did in Pioche? We really liked that part too. It's probably because we bought a bunch of tickets and kicked some butt.

I'll see if we can get a few more of my VV4W friends to join us.

The food was great and we made some new friends.

For a good time not too far from home you can't beat it.

They're planning on a raffle again. IIRC MRAN chipped in for a grand prize of some kind.

But I remember Jen kicking the most butt, so much so that she was giving stuff away.

Yes I won a few prizes, quite a few! That was fun! We will be back again this year, bringing extra friends :D .

Gary, do you have any idea if any race groups will be camping at the Silver State Trailhead? We may be camping up there because of the titanic size trailer we have.

Jen,

Let us know where you end up camping. Liz and I would love to hang out with you guys again if there's room.

The idea is to camp there at SST. If there are too many people there then there is another spot down the road we can try. If that one is packed then I'm not sure where we are camping. We will be wingin' it to find a place. So...I won't really know where we are camping 'till I get there. If ya want, pm me your number and I can call when we get there (fri. night). If there is a signal..

J.
